Is it wrong that I am considering selling my Wii U for a 3DS?

Not at all. The only thing wrong is that you bought one in the first place. You can always buy one again when it has some games going for it.

Not at all. You go with what appeals. I really like my Wii U and had plenty of fun with it so far so wouldnt get rid but the 3DS has a far better library currently and in the near future.

The Wii U is in that same position the 3DS was a few months after launch. If you're not happy to wait it out until towards the end of the year, for momentum to pick up, that's fair enough. There's plenty to be investing into a 3DS at the moment. The library is growing and is packed with top quality games.

Fortunately for me, I avoided a few multi-platform games so I could play them on Wii U, so i've actually still got games to play through.

I've just got loads to play spread over my PC/PS3/Vita & 3DS so for me I'm quite content with lego city and bit trip until pikmin arrives. Or maybe resi revelations. Undecided what platform I'll get that on yet though.

I just got an unboxed white 3ds xl delivered from amazon warehouse but the SD card doesn't have any game installed. They included a copy of mario 3d land along with it on cartridge.

Is it possible to download the game that should have been on the SD card still? Be a nice surprise if it turns out to be mario kart.

You might well be able to. Even if they've formatted the console. It's just figuring out what it was. You'll have to check each of the available games on the eShop and see which one says 'Redownload'.

Edit - As long as the data hasn't been transfered to another console, that is.

I was under the impression it would be in your download history in the eShop, unless the 3DS itself has had a full reset. Worth a look at least, though I'm most likely wrong.

Picked up my XL last night (bucked the trend round here and went for silver/black) with Luigi's Mansion 2. First impressions are very good, feels well made like the Vita. Things don't seem to have changed/improved with the screens since I last had a DS Lite, but at least the touch screen seems more responsive and less spongy than I recall the Lite being.

The 3D is a bit of a head fuck. After 20 minutes of it, I'll look at other things like the plasma/Vita/laptop and expect to see the same effect, and get a bit of a headache as my eyes adjust back to 2D O_o

Is it right that you only get 750 of these 'Stars' to register the XL? That seems a bit low when, for example, I just got 250 for registering an old copy of 'Metroid Other M' I found I had.

I checked, I can download Mario 3d land so I have a spare copy. Anyone want to swap for paper mario? I don't have the box for 3d land though, just the cart and instructions

Does that mean even though I formatted my original 3ds, and blatted all traces of my account when I traded it, that some git is walking round with my games?

@Short-Round Haha. I remember that. You do get used to it after a few weeks.

Every so often I try the 3D for a few seconds then turn it off. I probably just need to get used to it again but it really makes my eyes feel funny.

Really depends on the game whether 3D is a good idea.

For example Zelda OOT can really cause you problems with 3d on due to the puzzles but LM2 is glorious in 3d.

Just ordered Fire Emblem and Luigi's Mansion. They should arrive after my dissertation is due in.

I am going to make love to those games.

    Get bent.

Surprisingly I much prefer playing in 3d,dudbt anticipate that as a new 3ds owner. I think it offers something different and keeps my mind off how poor the graphics and screen are compared to my Vita. ;)

I even use it all the time in FE, where I thought it would be useless but the maps look much nicer in 3d

Hated the 3D, ruined games when it was on but I stuck with it as I felt obliged (being the sole feature of the console!).

It definitely helped in Mario, for the depth perception. Now, though, trying Etrian Odyssey on the XL in 3D looks quite nice but I really don't like leaving it on. Maybe my eyes are just feeling tired at the moment. :p

It's stunning, I'm genuinely surprised by it as I didn't know the 3DS had this much oomph, but the lighting is incredible, and as you say the 3D is awesome on full whack (it cocks up when you use that camera view where you move the 3DS to move the view though).

Are dodgy pixels common? I've noticed one on the top screen that doesn't light up (noticeable on dark screens) and it's bugging me now I know it's there.

I don't tend to use the 3D at all. It really messes with my eyes. It annoys me when I keep losing the sweet spot as well. Still its a non issue as I bought the 3DS as a nice upgrade/continuation of the DS anyway.

Absolutely loved the DS. This has a long way to go in order to match up to it but this year will be a giant stride towards it :)

@santashi I think the best way to go about 3D is to gradually increase the effect over time. I remember my eyes practically crossing over with Pilotwings and Ocarina of Time, so i'd have the 3D on quite low. Every other day i'd put the 3D up a notch and within a few weeks i'd got the slider up to the top. Now everything I play is in full 3D.

Although it doesn't actually help with a lot of games, there is clarity that you just don't get with other consoles and I love it.

i think game developers now have a better understanding of what level of 3dness to include. As sort of mentioned games like pilot wings were kind of obstrusive with the high settings. It hurt.

Literally all games i have played in the last year or so ,even on max, it feels gentle, but works really well. At times, it does feel like you are playing with dioramas or looking through a window, as raiko mentions theres a nice clarity to everything.

Don't see the problem - I'm using 3D on highest effect all the time, can't play it any other way!

I'm ok with the 3D; however the 3D videos still mess my eyes up!

I think I might actually go digital only with my 3DS -> XL transition.
If I buy the 3DS XL, transfer everything over from old 3ds to XL with a 32GB SD card and then buy my old games digitally will my save games all work ok on the new system?

There is a save game transfer tool in the eshop.

Some games save certain bits and bobs on the SD Card, but I think most of them still save the proper saves on the game carts themselves. Certainly all of my games keep the saves on the game carts.

Edit: Ooh, forgot about the Save Game Transfer tool. Good shout addyb :)
