Also the 5.1 mixing on this is beyond hilarious - the speech frequently jumps around randomly from channel to channel as people are speaking. Often even doing so mid sentence with york's inner monologue in the car spiralling in a circle sometimes.

The jumps in volume in speech are just utterly bonkers aswell - again all adds to the charms! I'm wondering if they even bothered with a proper 5.1 mix of this and just wrote some code to randomise the audio channels now and again!

Lover of quiche, hater of onion. Eternally conflicted.

I think I'm about 2/3 of the way through now (just finished chapter 17, the fishing for documents one)

The volume track is one of the stranger examples of shonkiness. I just can't work out how it's easier to fade the volume up and down at random moments, rather than just keep it at a constant volume throughout.

I've faced one set of wall crawlers so far. Whoever said they were the most annoying enemy ever earlier in the thread was right, particularly as I had no shotgun / SMG ammo at the time.

I haven't gone out of my way to get the side quests, but have grabbed some when I've spotted them whilst I've been driving. They've generally been pretty good.

I definitely can't play more than one chapter a night, but I'm really enjoying this now, and am definitely intrigued to see where it is going.

    Silly question, but... is an item, once thrown away, gone forever? I had my MISSION KNIFE out and ready, and accidentally pressed the B button instead of the A button. I can't find it on the ground ;_;
I didn't answer this as I wasn't 100% sure (I've just completed the first chapter or episode or something, and encountered the turkey/strawberry jam/cereal sandwich), but I don't think you need to worry. I think you think the MISSION KNIFE is some sort of special, permanent melee weapon (because I thought that when I first saw it), but its durability wears down just like any other melee weapon. You can use any old stick or bar instead. Don't worry about it.

on a vaguely related note, I accidentally hit the B button when looking at first aid kits, and managed to throw away 8 small first aid kits midway through a dungeon.

    Was not happy.

Just finished this last night, so have read back a bit through the thread to see other people's impressions.

So far, I've discovered I missed the whole 'hold your breath' mechanic, so spent far more time with the shonky combat mechanic than I needed to, and I missed loads of entertaining side quests / conversations as well.most annoyingly, I'd spoken to George to get the flower quest, and found the flower, but never actually bothered giving George the flower

Total playing time on easy was just over 20 hours, with 14 deaths. I think I completed about 10 - 15 side quests.

The ending was pretty emotional, particularly the what's she hiding under that sheet? moment with Emily. Shame it was slightly spoiled by the inevitable shonky boss fight shortly afterwards

Even though I've seemingly missed out on quite a bit of the fun stuff, I still really liked the game. Genuinely creepy in parts, and I'm very tempted to go back for a replay at some point, just to see how much stuff is hinted at earlier on.

I mite not double dip but it's tempting to play again. It's one of the most memorable games on the xbox. Not many games this gen are as weird and wonderful as DP and it shits all over Alan Wake

Hope this is true - Deadly Premonition looks like one of those batshit crazy Japanese games which seemed so rife last gen but increasingly rare nowadays. Was always a bit annoyed it got translated for 360 owners but not the PS3 crowd.

Small update on the front page to remind us that the director's cut is still coming (and still PS3-exclusive for now).

It was broken, clunky, tedious, and ugly in a thousand different ways, but it was still 110% awesome.

Video makes me want to replay it again (despite having overplayed it). Alas, my copy is with someone, but I should wait for the Directors Cut anyway

    \o/

Seriously tempted to buy this again as an excuse to play through it one more time.

All the eurogamers who actually play with each other on xbl rather than just post pseudointellectual pc handwringing bollocks on the forums, love the shit out of biggy.

This game's been sat on my shelf for a few months now. I've finally finished Far Cry 3 and my NG+ run of Dark Souls so I'm going to start it tonight. Looking forward to it as I'm a massive fan of Twin Peaks (TV gets no better - save maybe The Wire).

Any tips or suggestions for someone starting their first play through?

Yes change the controls so you have better combat experience, e.g. Left trigger to aim and right trigger to shoot. Default was a real pain for me and very wrong. ;-) Also to allow for the wonkyness I played on easy which was quite challenging. It's a weird and totally wonderful game.

Loved the idea, the look, soundtrack of the game (360) but the poxy amount of QTE's meant we parted company PDQ, however I will be getting this on the ps3,as the amount of them has been addressed, amongst a load of other things of course
