    I watched this last night having not known anything about it. I enjoyed it and wasn't expecting the level of violence on display.

    And for once Nicolas Cage in decent acting shocker!

    I like how the violence is kind of a twist. Quite cool.

    I really like Kick Ass. They're doing the sequel now although Matthew Vaughn isn't directing.

    From the sounds of it Kick Ass 2 will be pretty difficult to adapt from the comic. There are insanely violent scenes that would go way beyond an R rating in the States.

    Kick Ass 2 is, sadly, a bit shit. All of its impact is gone and it just relies on more and more stupid violence. Its a proper comic book stuff, which kind of misses the point of the first one.

    RE: Nick Cage being a decent actor, it's all about the casting. He'll either make or break a film. In the right roles he's absolutely fantastic, and things like Wild at Heart and Adaptation in particular show how brilliant he can be.

    He was hilarious in this. Love the way he channeled Adam West.

    I thought Super was much better than Kick Ass anyway. Going for the same thing but pulled it off far better.

    There are obvious similarities, but Super isn't a superhero film. It's a film about a man having a mental breakdown. It's closer to something like Falling Down than Kick Ass.

    Two different movies though, eh, depending on what you're after? I enjoyed both in totally different ways.

    Matthew Vaughn is producing, so maybe he'l still have some clout over the director.

    Falling Down is a brilliant movie, but it's ruined by the massive cop out at the end. One of my biggest movie peeves of all time.

    Kick Ass was shit btw.

    The first half of Kick Ass was amazing, and the second half was amusing in a dumb way. It's two different movies, but unlike other films that are two in one, I thought the join was papered over pretty well. Not rewatched it yet though.

    I don't know both Super and Kick ass seemed to be asking the question what would it actually be like to try and be a super hero in real life. Kick ass actually turned into a super hero film though which kind of missed the point I thought.

    Super on the other hand showed that you really would have to be a fairly disturbed individual to even consider the idea and although it does go a little towards making the character an actual super hero it's not quite as far fetched as Kick Ass. Rainn Wilson was also just much better in the lead than Aaron Johnson for me.

    Loved it, even the cheesiest moments. There's are scenes in that film that are purest genius and the casting couldn't have been more spot on. A quality movie through and through. And a satisfying conclusion to a great little trilogy.

    It’s pretty well trodden territory, so I don’t think either of them are original in that respect. I think the comparison comes more from the similar female sidekicks in both films. Were it not from that they wouldn’t appear so immediately similar.

    Again, I don’t think they’re as similar as they might appear. I like both.

    Hmm, surely the comparison comes from them both being sort of normal people turned superhero flicks that were released in the same year. The 'female sidekick' thing is just a random trope that they both chose to use, because it's pretty much de regeur these days.

    Jim Carrey is in the sequel which is filming now. Will be nice to see him again. Feels like it has been ages.
