    I guess the game doesn't speak to everyone. But when it clicks, it clicks. Certainly satisfying combat for me.

    Its all relative. We are talking about a genre that specialises in turn)based combat. Even the best example of that is not going to be on the level of Street Fighter X Tekken. But as the level of combat goes in this niche genre of gaming, Blue Dragon rules supreme.

    LO was shit. No doubt about it. But there was more fun to be had with JRPGs on the NES than with LO.

    LO to me is the best RPG of this generation. It is everything Final Fantasy XIII should have been.

    Only played a couple of hours of Blue Dragon, I like the battle system and graphics etc! I guess I should give it more time. But I don't see me liking it more than LO or Xenoblade or even DQIX ether. Poo monster!

    I am pretty sure there are better. A few that I can think of are:

    FFXIII: Shit game, great battle system
    Star Ocean: Till the End of Time
    Grandia II
    Xenoblade Chronicles
    Valkyria Chronicles
    The World Ends With You
    Crimson Shroud
    Trails in the Sky

    And that is certainly not a complete list.

    I'd genuinely struggle to think of a jrpg with a less interesting combat system made in the last 20 years. Atelier Rorona maybe.

    Evolution on the DC was worse.

    They are lots that are very similar which is my main issue with it.

    @PazJohnMitch Out of that list, to my shame, I have only played FFXIII. This may be one of the more controversial statements I have made in the 4 years since this thread has been running, but the combat system in that is NOT better than Blue Dragon. Absolutely not.

    The combat system in Blue Dragon is the most simple, basic and un-engaging in jrpg history. It says more about the people that like it than any amount of words.

    This thread is veering towards dangerous territory. Compared to Lost Odyssey, Blue Dragon's combat system has the finesse and depth of Virtua Fighter 5. The people that prefer Lost Odyssey are the type of people that used to see this face staring up at them. And he called it 'Lost Odyssey Time'.

    I played blue dragon for a couple of hours. Far too linear for me. Not played Lost Odyssey.

    As you have not played many JRPGs I recommend Dragon Quest VIII. Blue Dragon is based on the Dragon Quest series and has a similar battle System. I personally prefer more dynamic battle systems as the flat back 4 approach seems a bit tired for me. (But I have played well over 60 JRPGs).

    Lost Odyssey is better than most JRPGs of this generation, but I'd put Tales of Vesperia and Ni No Kuni above Lost Odyssey.

    Lost Odyssey is a great game. I don't like how the story kinda goes to crap on disc 4 though.

    The story in FFX was stupid, but the combat was the best in the series, the sphere grid was brilliant, it was really well paced, and I fucking love blitzball and will kill anyone that tells me that's wrong!

    Seriously, that game got so much right.

    Yeah and with the monster arena it also had an entire other game going on in it that had more depth and things to do than most other whole games.

    It does sum up why I don't like the game though. The story was bad and the voice acting wasn't very good. Combine that with a cast of thoroughly unlikeable and annoying characters and you've got a bad mix.

    The combat was very good fun and the music was great.

    Not with you on blitzball though. Frustrated the help out of me. Give me a card game anyday.
