Registered 11 years agoI must be jaded. That video just didn't "wow" me at all. The waterfall bit near the end was nice I suppose. -
Wrong section really, the video shows 360/PS3 footage.

Registered 4 years agoIt's all very nice, the lighting especially but do we really need more freakin' jungle? The city stuff looked far cooler, and it could just be me, but does it have a ...UE3 ring to it O_o
I'll need to polish my eyes and download the high def stuff to get a better look.
Edit: Ah, it's console footage, that'll be why! -
Hmm, why does it not look as good as cryengine 2?

Registered 6 years agoSorry, didn't notice it was console footage. That explains why, like HitchHiker, I was completely un-wowed by it.
/waits patiently for some decent PC footage

Registered 6 years agoIn context though that footage is very good and will make a nice change from all the plastic wrapped shiny neon of Unreal Engine based titles. -

Registered 7 years agoNo wonder so few people are using CryEngine2. Crytek are giving crap all support because they've already abandoned it for this new engine. -

That's so it will still run on the PS3 (lowest common denominator and all that).

Registered 8 years agoOh I agree that the Crytek engine is terrific but I can't imagine it'll shine on the consoles with their dated graphics hardware and lack of memory. I do hope that the engine being made with the consoles in mind as well doesn't mean scaled down PC games too a la F.E.A.R. 2, which really suffered on the PC for being multiformat IMO.PS3, PS Vita, PC (Intel Core i7-4770K, 16 GB, 3 GB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780, Windows 8 Pro), iPad 4

I didn't think it looked particularly fantastic even knowing it was taken from the consoles. For one, there were deliberately slow camera pans to attempt to hide the screen tearing. And two, the tropical island scene at the end actually looked worst than the 16 month Crysis IMO. That said it looked good enough considering it's running on limited hardware and looks as if it'll lead to Crysis appearing on the 360 and PS3 at some point.
That's why it doesn't look very impressive, seems it's their attempt to scale back the Cry Engine to run on the sexy TV boxes.
I was also reminded of Volition's ridiculous claims that their tech for Red Faction Guerilla was 5 to 10 years ahead of everyone else yet that video clearly showed environmental destruction physics that looks on a par with anything I've seen from their game so far. No doubt the PC version would be even more impressive on high-end hardware.PS3, PS Vita, PC (Intel Core i7-4770K, 16 GB, 3 GB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780, Windows 8 Pro), iPad 4

You can see tearing in that video though albeit it's very slight because of the slow pans. It's real-time, disc, or appears that way to me.
Hide tearing.
The way to hide tearing when recording footage of your engine is to render the fucking trailer at a fixed framerate. It doesn't have to be realtime.PS3, PS Vita, PC (Intel Core i7-4770K, 16 GB, 3 GB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780, Windows 8 Pro), iPad 4

Looks nice to me.

It looks alright. I'm more interested to see what kind of physics is can handle on consoles tbh.

As long as it's better than their last console effort. FC2 runs like a dog on the 360.
-
FC2 wasn't done by Crytek. In fact, they have absolutely nothing to do with it. It's not even their engine.

boabg, that's the second time I've seen you post about the 360 version of FC2 looking dodgy. boabg, um, there's nowt wrong with the frame rate in 360 Far Cry 2 ya silly sausage.

Pretty sure it's not - it was developed by Ubisoft from the ground for FC2. All Ubisoft did was buy the name.

Registered 6 years agoHmm, I thought that I had heard it was a modded FC1 engine in some of the early previews on EG. My mistake I guess. -
Here's an uninteresting fact for you:
There seems to be far more clouds in PS3 FC2 than in 360 FC2. PS3 the shiz for clouds. -

Honestly? In the bit you get the disease at the start there was shocking slowdown and tearing where you get shot in the firefight. Two frames passed from standing upright to lying on the ground. That's all I've played so far.boabg wrote:
