Expected another to turn up eventually, but after Chronicles bombed this is the first concrete news I've heard it is actually happening.

Excellent news, but a while off if Twohy is only just finishing the script :(

Yeah Chronicles was a pretty bad movie, but I love the character of Riddick, he's awesome!

He's doing a new Fast and Furious flick too along with Paul Walker.

    Weirdly, I'll probably watch it.

    Yep it does :)

(actually I only watched it to get all ornery about Thandie Newton)

That Riddick movie is better than the new SW trilogy, and a damn good film to watch on a Sunday afternoon when you just want to veg.

It's still better than Babylon AD, which quite frankly was a terrible film.

I have to admit in HD it's still a very watchable movie!

I confess to quite enjoying the last Riddick movie. Was a bit all over the place, but it was a fun film.

Can video games be a force for good? My latest article says yes!

I was watching the bit on Xbox Live about the upcoming Riddick game, and the dev said that Diesel and Twohy were busy writing the next two movies in the franchise!

I just had to watch Pitch Black after that, which is definitely a good film. CoR, less so, undeniably flawed, but still watchable.

Rewriting, I assume. They had all three films written before they started filming the first. Oops.

Didn't know that. Admittedly, there's not an awful lot wrong with CoR, it just doesn't quite gel as a whole, but parts of it are rather good.

COR feels like 2 movies anyway, a normal sequel to pitch black set in a prison with deadly sunlight which was kinda cool and another movie with some weird plot about necrobummers doing mystical shit

I thought the Riddick movie was really quite good, I remember hearing that they pissed off a load of fellow producers by taking up pretty much every single set in the studio to film it :D

I'll go with this, parts were great (like the prison and the surface run), but the whole necromonger story was poo and a complete departure from the gritty realism of the Riddick universe that made low budget PB so great.

Still gonna watch my HD DVD of it when the game comes out tho!

I love Chronicles, there's some undoubtedly bad bits but it's the vision of a muscleman D+D nerd. Not many movies can lay claim to that. Also Twohy directed it in such a way that at least visually it felt coherent, even if the plot was a mess, and some sequences (such as the intro, arrival of the Necro's and the inferno place) were most cool. It had imagination, which is more than most big budget films do these days. And a cool soundtrack.

This should be good, as long as Diesel is reigned in by Twohy. Although you have to find some humour in the extra feature where he's marvelling at the sets like a schoolkid.

The directors cut is a lot better. Its a weird one, though. Despite the critical panning it got, you dont find many people who really dislike it. To be honest, the only thing I dont really like about it is the amount of time they spend fuckarsing around in jail.

Its another 'watch it if its on' movie.

I think it's ok, as a stand alone film. It's only seen as bad when you view it as a follow up to the almighty Pitch Black. It barely feels like the same universe.

I like the film a lot. Not as bad as some for sure.

Vin Diesel mentions how the next Riddick movie is quietly moving along virtually every time he's interviewed. I wouldn't pay it much attention until we've at least got a teaser.
  • Deleted user 10 March 2009 13:41:53
Tempted by the BR of Pitch Black now :)

It would be great if they could just quietly forget Chronicles and make the new one the proper sequel.

The director's cut of Chronicles was indeed watchable. Certainly I'd take it another one over most Hollywood sci-fi thats being churned out, bar the two James Cameron films due out soon.

I do love Riddick, enough for it to be borderline gay. Not Vin Diesel, but Riddick is awesome, and I'd like to see him again in any form.

I'm not sure where they'd go with the sequel though, Riddick is a mass murderer with power, but at the same time he's actually found things to care about. He'll probably fancy a go at the Underverse though.

I'd kick the living daylights out of the producers of Tipping Point - Ghandi

Chronicles was more of a "just missed" rather than a train wreck, not too bad but didn't live up to Pitch Black.

Good to see some news on a 3rd film. The Riddick character is actually fairly interesting rather than being another generic action hero.
