Character creation is great, the rest is ropey city I heard.

I remember another MMO with superheroes that had a great character creation system. It wasn't all that good :D

I found the character creation to be a pain. It kept swapping back to previous menus (like from upper body, to head) when I made changes, and trying to add bucklers kept generating fault reports.

What surprised me most was how unstructured the opening was - and how uninspiring. Age of Conan had Tortage, which managed to look great and elicit a certain amount of atmosphere. WAR had a nicely scripted Public Quest within the first five levels which immediately stood out as memorable from the rest of the MMO world.

But Champions Online appears to have a couple of skyscrapers that could have come out of a Doom mod circa 1995, a series of bland quests, and a thoroughly unsatisfying climax to the opening. Most curious.

I haven't even got through the tutorial. I was rudely interrupted by the wife wanting things like dinner and conversation.

Shall try again now though. I have created a character called Wiz.

He is the Wiz, and he is AWESOME!

Or rather I would try again now, but it refuses to get a list of maps so I'm stuck on the menu screen :-s

Nobody bothered reading the NDA then?

The one thing I didn't like about the character creation bit was the limit they put on your origin story. I'd barely got started on Cartilage's tragic beginnings.

Had good fun these last few hours on it anyway just seems to be lacking a bit of atmosphere so far which I put down to the sounds. Music is rubbish or non-existent (stupid Canadian wind) and the sound effects don't have much of a punch.

    i quite enjoyed that...
didn't have a clue what i was doing but leveled up 4 times.
Started a fight with a little midget hero called lightweight he accepted my duel..
the little git smacked me in the kneecaps and did me.
very confusing though the whole thing but i managed to do quite a few quests somehow.
couldn't get my joypad to work which was a shame.
    All in all quite fun.

Tonight was the first time I've been able to try it out and I enjoyed seeing it in the flesh.

As Whizzo said however, we're all under NDA so I won't be saying anything beyond that.

I'm hoping i can play it like a console game using just the joypad.
It should be possible if its coming out on the 360 as well.
I only used move and 1 attack and block and a talk/use button as well as move the camera so it should easily have enoughj buttons on my 360 pad.

Fair enough, I will delete my comment. Can't say I am a fan of publishers offering $200 lifetime subscriptions and not letting the community talk about their game in public though.

Now this makes it look like I said something terrible about the game, which I didn't.

    There was an NDA? :)

Fuck it - if they don't want people talking about it a month before release, they don't have any confidence in it. That in itself is probably more damning than anything we could say here.

The best thing is that you can move AND use abilities. Not going to say anything else (NDA) but I thought it is great and a nice update to CoX.

Surely if you're taking this NDA seriously you shouldn't even say that? THEY COULD BE WATCHING!

I would say I don't care about the NDA, but if I did, and they quoted it back to me before saying "jog on!" when I tried to get in to the Star Trek Online one, I'd be pissed.

I will say this much though - in my humble opinion, the most recent big changes are not ones that I would say I preferred to the old system. I will still be getting a lifetime sub though, it's still quite enjoyable just flying about in the sky. That's why I love Superman Returns, despite it being admittedly questionable.

I know you can't say anything because of the NDA but this is a general question.
Can all superheroes fly no matter what base character you chose?

I bloody hope so! Mind you I think the way I've designed my hero I would be very surprised if he couldn't.

Does anyone have a spare key by any chance? I missed the giveaway when it was happening, and have been scavenging around for others but no luck :(

If I were to take a wild guess I'd say it'll be the same as in CoX.

As I understand it, any travel power can be taken by any person. That's taken from information in written previews so not NDA breaky, but also less reliable. Sorry it's not much help, but it is logical enough.

Look out! NDA's gonna get you!

I'd imagine the travel powers are the same as in CoH. In that you could choose flight, running fast, jumping or teleporting.

There's also a cool one called Tunnelling which... well, which does more or less what it says on the tin.

I love the look of the Swinging power, I liked the Spider-man games because of the swingy goodness which I learned about totally from the Internet and NOT THE GAME AT ALL!

Should be able to use the key anytime to register mawend, though not play until the allocated slots.
