Registered 7 years agoCurrently wading through cvs. Good god people don't put computer games in your hobbies. Im a big fat nerd and have been since i was a small fat nerd but reading that in an application for a sought after position just makes me cringe and quickly move onto the next! -

Registered 10 years agoSoooo, might be popping in here soon. Worst part is if I do get canned there is no way I will be able to get the same salary, benefits or flexibility.
Le sigh.... Ah well might take a few months off to enjoy the summer. -

Did you finally get found out for the casting couch selection process? Playing all the right notes— but not necessarily in the right order.

Registered 7 years agoTechnically been out of work for the past year. Still available to the college but since it is part-time, no hours available as full-time get priority; they were apparently under hours this year...plus I imagine not many of them faked illness this time around, as cuntish as college kids are.
Thankfully my outgoings aren't high but feels sucky that I couldn't find something in this year to escape teaching. -

Registered 6 years agoThanks, Ive hopefully got a labouring job lined up (through a friend) which should fit around child care arrangements. Bit of a step down but it'll do as a short term solution until something better comes along.
What is frustrating is that the cuts were made arbitrarily and not based on performance or.workload. I know people who do very little valuable work but are keeping their jobs.

Registered 10 years agoSorry to hear that Rodney, I took VR from my current job this week and unbelievably they accepted.
I put forward what I would accept, expecting to negotiate down but it was accepted. So I will be taking a month off and then start looking for something new. -

Registered 6 years agowell, my leaving drinks were pretty good.
The worst of it so far has been dealing with recruitment consultants. Most of them really are full of shit and seem to talk and write only in buzzwords and management speak.
I've got an interview tomorrow which I'm a little nervous about because I think the job might be a bit of a stretch for me and it's a tough job market at the moment but we'll see how it goes....
If I do get it then I'm treating myself to a 60" 3D TV with my remaining redundancy pay so that's some motivation at least (on top of not having to deal with recruitment consultants any more). -

Registered 4 years agoGood luck!
I'm getting by at the moment with little bits of contracting/ temp work here and there, but there's a distinct lack of any decent stable employment around my area. And after settling for lower wages twice over the last five years, I've no desire to continue competing in the race to the bottom of the wage pile after working so hard to pull myself up the ladder over the last twelve years. Now with 80% more Cthulhu!

Registered 2 years agoIt can be tough, just don't let it get to you. End up in a crappy cycle of doubting yourself otherwise
Just keep trying. Been with my firm over 14 years, so it's goin to be a change adjusting to a new life after leaving them. Infact looking forward to a new challenge -

Registered 4 years agoThe upside to unemployment is that it gives you plenty of time to reassess what you want out of life and you can use it as an opportunity to pursue your ambitions and dreams.
The downside is, obviously, that without some clear goals and motivation you can quickly descend into a monotonous life of daytime tv and a bowl of soggy cornflakes.
View it as an opportunity rather than a setback though and it can feel like you suddenly have a freedom back that you never realised you'd lost.

Not really saved apart from a 25 year savings deal direct debt each month. Got 11 years left on it then I get the money back and interest. Am terrible at saving so I'm glad I did that deal
Got a decent redundancy package. About half will go into savings, allowance for the year, rest spilt into holiday, courses( get three grants to help with job courses, which is all nice and well but if I get new qualifications in a new job field with no work experience in that area, then I will be facing too much competition. Have to find a suitable firm that will take on new comers.
Plus half a year of Skyrim and will start operation Massive beard to go with my Nord character

Registered 2 years agoWe had a career transition workshop to attend. Help us get ready for when we left. Most of the other people already had job interviews lined up or knew what they wanted to do

Registered 6 years agoInterview went okay. They were using words I didnt understand but I don't think they noticed.
One person on the panel said they were not a good 'finisher' - not sure what they meant but it made me think of Mortal Kombat fatalities.
My inside spy said that I 'impressed' so we'll see.
That 60" TV could be mine -

Maybe it was sales related? Although maybe that'd be a "closer".
