I found a Seagate Momentus 2,5 SATA-300 250GB HD for 51.30€. My question is, will the SATA-300 connect properly to the PS3? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Registered 10 years agoIt'll work, but the PS3 doesn't take advantage of the extra speed. -

Registered 5 years agoIt's 5400 rpm. Isn't that the same rpm as the one that comes with the PS3? -

Registered 5 years agoI got a Western Digital Scorpio 250GB 2.5 inch Serial ATA (5400rpm) 8MB Cache Hard Disk Drive.
it all works perfectly.
The only problem now is.... I seem to have almost filled it with games Mp4s and MP3s !! -

Of course.
One other question, when backing it up on to a external HDD, will all the games i downloaded from the PSN be available on the new HDD? -

Registered 9 years agoIm fucked off. Just upgraded my 120Gb 5400rpm to a 320Gb 7200rpm and there is a darn corrupt PS Home installation file on my old one, preventing me from using the backup utility.
Backup joy here I come... -

Registered 11 years agoDefinitely going to be in need of an upgrade very soon.
If Sony start realeasing more stuff via PSN it's going to soon become a necessity. -

Registered 5 years agoI know what you mean. After installing Wipeout earlier I checked how much space I had left on my HD. 6Gb isn't going to get me very far so I think I'll upgrade to a 250Gb next pay day.Xbox Live/PS3/Steam - Kokapetl

Registered 11 years agoAh, I did buy a LinkStation Live a few months back for the music and video on the PS - 500GB. Run it over WiFi, which is okay, but struggles with HQ HD stuff. Good buy though...for now... -

Registered 11 years agoErr I had about 200MB left.
Scared the bejaysus out of me when only the 100MB lock file downloaded.
Thought I had lost what I paid for.
Granted I have Heroes series 2,3 on it at the moment. Must do some house cleaning and move it all to TVersity. -

Registered 5 years agohi all,
just ordered a wd scorpio blue 500gb drive for my ps3 (http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-248-WD&groupid=701&catid=14&subcat=896&name=Western%20Digital%20Scorpio%20Blue%20500GB%205400RPM%20SATA-II%208MB%20Cache%20-%20OEM%20(WD5000BEVT)). my intention is to have a 450gb ps3 and set 50gb to yellow dog linux so i can run programs like vlc player on it.
a couple of quick questions to any 60gb people who have upgraded
1) as the european systems use software emulation to do the backwards compatibility (damn you sony) is this transferred ok when you do the 'back up and restore function' on the system menu
2) do the memory card readers still work ok?
cheers -

Registered 8 years agoAll restored fine - I'm not sure if all my Trophies have made it but they're linked to your PSN ID rather than stored on the HDD so should be OK.
Everything else seems fine. Pretty straight forward to do actually... -

Registered 6 years agoI think you have to 'sync' the trophies after you've restored by comparing yours with someone on your friends list. -

Registered 5 years agoFantastic! I've been reading about this whole HDD upgrade and am liking the sound of it very much! Am I right in assuming/presuming that (the (very) act of) changing the existing drive for a bigger one is completely above-board and in no way violates, voids or invalidates the existing PS3 warranties?

Registered 5 years agoThanks for that Aretak, I've just looked at the manual and found the instructions for doing this. It all looks surprisingly straightforward.
(I'm sure if there's a way to mess it up, I'll find it though...)

Exactly how do I back up all the data? I have a SimpleTech external HDD, do i plug it in via USB and save it there?
