No SS1 though? Damn shame, it's the better story, even if it does look like a bad acid trip.

There's a patch that gets it working fine with xp. Though I'm not sure about win 7.

Still, doesn't matter, I'll just buy it again off Gog.

Yeah, be nice to see SS1. I've got a patch to get that going on xp too, but you need 8 arms to play it properly

Imagine a updated texture patch for ss1

I don't think the textures are the biggest problem - it's the engine. One of the early true 3D jobs, so you get that surreal stretch and squeeze shit going on when you do all the cool shit in it you couldn't do before, like crouching, lying down, leaning, rollerblading your way off a ramp with the rear view implant on while tripping on a Beserk Combat Booster dermal patch, etc.

It's probably possible to mod the whole shebang into something like Source, keeping the SFX, audio logs, etc. It would look and play /fantastic/ in a decent engine - I wish I had the skills and time to do it.

@MetalDog - yeah, that would fantastic.

Still, even if there was a basic res fix, so things like a gun isn't the size of the entire hud would be good. I can cope with the skew.

Last time I played it, I don't think it had a proper mouse look

Music can stay as it is - it's brilliant

Oh, hang on a minute, look at this shiny thing of beauty

Oooh, sweet. I shall have to nab that.

The music is fucking awesome - it would be the hardest thing to port over to a new engine, I reckon, it changed on the fly depending what the action was. Medical and Security were the absolute business.

Pretty much :) I remember the very first time I went in that lift. And remember calming down a bit with the music after legging it from the end of level one

    And then that next level...

    haha

Dammit I have to play this again now. Already part-way through replaying Eternal Darkness and getting my arse kicked on AvP2 - must be nostalgia season!

@MetalDog - spooky - I'm playing through eternal darkness too! (Gone the green path this time, which is probably stupid first time round after all this time)

And I was thinking of getting avp2 out again too, with all this new aliens hullaballoo!

Obviously I haven't got time for system shock 1 or 2...

    er

I'm on the green path too, old drippy eyeball time. Still got my old saves though, so I'll get the fourth ending when I finish.
I've discovered that my ageing and somewhat neglected cube has decided it will crash if I manually save ED - but only after a minute or so after the save has been made, the first time that happened I waited aaages for it to say 'haha, only joking!'

When you succumb to AvP2, remember that there is no checkpoint saves and that if you do what I did and go for 'hard', forgetting how things have changed, you will be dying a lot =D

Obviously we don't have time to play SS1 as well. Obviously.

I couldn't find my memory card, so I had to start from scratch. Not that I'd got very far though.

Completely forgotten what avp2 is like. I just remember I like it. Should be a giggle

SS1 isn't loaded on my pc at the moment.

    but ss2 is argh

Along with dark souls, demon souls, dishonoured, house of the dead overkill, and I'm working my way through the chaos engine too \o/

Talking of retro, I'm even listening to stuff like this while I'm typing this

    (at work!)

The original system Shock music was excellent but there are also some great remixes.

Speaking of music: Through The Looking Glass - Jukebox.

Thank you all for pointing to those sound files and remixes, I know what I'm going to spend my time listening to later! Going to have a look at the wifes laptop tonight to see if it's up to running SS2. If it is, I'll be in heaven / sci-fi hell.

Last time I looked into co-op it didn't look easy to do over anything other than a LAN, but I'd be happy as hell to be proven wrong. Never had the chance to play co-op and would like to with SS2.

You people who have only ever played SS2 need to play SS1! The portable version runs fine on win7, I had a quick blast last night. The mouselook works well when you turn it on too.

Yeah, I have to agree, ss1 is better, dare I say it

    /cue impending shitstorm :)

@Metaldog - nice one - I'm going to download that onto my work laptop for some sneaky system shock shenanigans!
