    Seen all the footage that they have shat out, and it all has the pong of 7/10 as you say.

    The Left for dead format of (one of the multiplayer modes) won't really hold my attention, it did't in L4D after all.

    So, Meh

    I think he just punched an alien and it staggered. I now see why people are concerned, the footage makes the aliens appear sluggish and fairly non-threatening.

    Why did they keep taking their specs off and then putting them on in the preview video?

    As people have stated i think aliens would be perfect for a dead space style of game. Including limb dismberment and all.

    Think love for the franchise will make a bad game acceptable but hoping it turns out ok in the end.

    Exactly.

    I even liked Prometheus, that's how much they have me by the short and curlies :)

    One alien against a group of marines should be terrifying. A swarm plus that big bastard should be pant shittingly scary. By the looks of that video, it's not.

    I'll still buy it though. /shame

    I know people loved L4D, but that multiplayer mode was just frustrating for me, spawn die, spawn hang around for a bit die, and so on,

    I would prefer a really good hoard mode with a few tweaks, or a really good single player story with 4 player co-op, that would tick all the boxes for me.

    In my mind it needs to be the ultimate co-op game to be a success

    That footage looks pretty cool, lots of atmosphere which is really the main thing you want from an aliens game. Starting to get a bit excited for this, I may even dabble in the multiplayer on this one.

    Actually going for the collectors edition to which is something I never do but 60 notes is fairly cheap considering you get a game some DLC and a figurine. Even the hive thing will serve as a nice background for all my other aliens stuff.

    @Gruff

    I'm sure there will be some kind of "horde"/survival mode in there. There was in AvP, it's a mode that makes perfect sense for an aliens game.

    If anything, this could (and should?) have followed the Zombi U style.
    The aliens are far too fast for a normal shootie shootie, especially if there's a ton of them.

    In terms of alien numbers how many colonists were there anyway? The aliens weren't limited in number in the movie. I guess though many were in the nest in the reactor so many would have perished in the explosion so numbers will dwindle by the time Colonial Marines picks up the story.

    60....maybe 70 families.

    It's a game, it has to translate into fun, rather than canon. IMO of course.

    @bad09:
    If they can retcon a nuked crater "the size of Nebraska" they can retcon in a few hundred aliens I bet...

    Ah that's it, I knew families got mentioned in Aliens but couldn't remember the number. That's a hell of a lot of Xenomorph! :)

    I thought that at first but thinking about it have they done a retcon? Remember they had to fly to the reactor so it was some distance from Hadley's Hope. How big is Nebraska? :)

    I enjoyed the MP at the Expo, nothing quite like spinning on your heels and blasting an alien sneaking up behind you because you're using the motion scanner unlike a lot of the other players.

    Yeah I see what you mean there. I dunno though Aliens was only a little creeping about at first and then big fuck off shootouts and manic chases so I'm sure the game will follow formula.

    Ah you're right they did drive there!

    I got it ripped on my PC and had a quick look to refresh. According to Bishop the blast radius would be 30 kilometres.

    Some new footage and interviews with Gearbox:

    Particularly interesting is where they talk about staying true to the movie canon. They talk about "what the explosion of the atmosphere processor has done to the colony buildings and the 'surviving aliens'", also they mention "what the company has done to the colony and the derelict in the 17 weeks since the end of the film Aliens". They also say that Ridley Scott himself is involved. So it's all true to canon and well handled.

    That's all very reassuring indeed.

    Gearbox talk so much shite in their propaganda, so I remain to be convinced.

    But it was worth it for the dramatic shots of a pasty white code monkey putting on his glasses.

    so even then, even if every family was 2 adults and 2.4 children your are still only talking about maybe 300 aliens. im tempted to watch aliens again and make a rough estimate of how many were killed in that :p

    Pffff. Recalls this story from a while back.

    Second hive ? Tunnels/caverns ? Genetic mutation ? They're making shit up as they go along, pissing over 20 years of established concepts, drowning it out with the constant scream of "CANON !" as they shoehorn it in ridiculous fashion.

    All manner of scenarios available, and they had to tinker and meddle with the one thing they shouldn't have.
