Greetings all, and welcome to this - the last 'What's New' of 2007. Mostly because there's sod all out next week or the week after, although I might do a post next week just for comedy value. It's pretty much all over bar the shouting anyway, but Sony fans are in for a reasonable enough week (shonkiness of the Orange Box port aside), especially the 1% of PSP owners who don't pirate all their games who have the mighty, mighty Disagea to buy and kiss and love and cherish and possibly play. And that Wipeout thing, too.

    PLAYSTATION 3
    Half-Life 2: The Orange Box
The Elder Scrolls Oblivion - Game of the Year

    XBOX 360
    None this week

    WII
The Legend of Spyro - The Eternal Night

    PLAYSTATION 2
    Mr Bean

    PC GAMES
    Space Force - Captains
    The Golden Compass

    DS
    None this week

    PSP
    Beowulf
    Disgaea - Afternoon of Darkness
    The Golden Compass
    Wipeout Pulse

    Next Week:
Hmm.... now then.... second week in January before we're really seeing anything of note, I think. And even then it just seems to be some darts games, some more Buzz and (potentially) the Phantasy Star expansion pack. Head on another week and we have Geometry Wars: Galaxies and Zack and Wiki, so perhaps that's the best thing to aim for. Better hope you get something good for Consumermas, eh?

Is Disgaea like FF:Tactics or more like a normal JRPG?

Hmmm. Did I really hate FF:T all that much?

Does anyone have a hacked PSP that can also run new retail games? I'd like to know if I'm in a position to do so, and how to get to that position if I'm not.

All 'hacked' PSPs can run new retail games.

Great end to the year for the PSP, eh?

Disgaea can be had (from the Hut) for 17.93 and Wipeout for 17.99 from various stockists. Bargains.

Kay's right - the PSP has had a fantastic end to the year!

Ah. Guess I'm still of the time that the haxxors kept on having to work on a new hacked firmware every time a new one came out.

Did go to a custom firmware this year, but I never really tried putting a retail game in. :)

Oh, you meant firmware-wise? That depends. The latest custom firmware out is 3.71, whilst the latest official one is 3.73 I think.

3.71 should be enough to play the latest games for now. But no doubt Sony will soon release games that require higher firmware. Things have improved a lot in that respect though, the homebrew scene always somehow manages to keep up with the latest firmware releases.

Its the remake with bells and whistles of Butcher Bay from the Xbox.. however most retailers have it hanging around the end of Q1 2008.. which means could be anytime next year.

I wasn't drinking, and it was a Chinese meal rather than turkey and tinsel. I left at about half ten 'cos I was bored. :-D

Precisely! It's an extended version of 'Hour of Darkness' - I think it's perfect!

Now, where the f*** is my copy of Wipeout Pulse, Amazon? Eh?

Sounds like some sort of Bournville chocolate presentation.

Silly, but awesome. Just like Disgaea itself.
