    My Dad loves the Ship Simulator series, of which the most recent, Ship Sim Extremes, is probably the best.

    The missions are quite varied and it's actually not bad. The game has broken missions though, and going by previous games they won't ever fix them, so if he's really into full completion it'll be physically impossible.

    Kirby is the man! Even if he wasn't, he'd just ingest and become one.

I played it with an Xbox 360 controller - but, if you can find the game for cheap (it shouldn't cost too much these days), maybe you can get a wired 360 controller to go with it? (They're simple to set up, just plug it in to a USB port and it'll install itself in 30 seconds. Also, many games natively support them (including Batman), which means they're calibrated automatically as if you're playing on an Xbox).

    How about The Orange Box?

    If he dislikes it, and Portal in particular, you could always pay a tramp to stab him.

    TBH, in that case - I'd just go with StarCraft II. It's the "big" PC game of 2010.

    Yeah it's fast-paced, and hardcore and all that.

    But, you don't have to get into that side of it at all. You can play the single-player campaign at your own pace (which is brilliant, btw), and skirmish with the AI if you don't fancy going online.

    It's not all Krazy Koreans, clicking 300 times per minute and memorising complex build orders and things like that.

    Get him the X:BTF superbox set. Years of in depth stuff there.

    Incidentally, in the event that it's his sort of game, Batman AA really is phenomenal. It's one of my favourite games of this generation.

    Orange box, come on, he's a current sort of dad, been there done that.

    he's not an online gamer, so if starcraft isn't as hardcore as i thought maybe that's a good option.

    Is UncleLou not around much any more, he was always on the button with the mature gamer ;-)

    What about a puzzler? Heard good things (though not played) about Chime and Machinarium.

    Give yourself ½ gig or a £, you're worth it.

    Civ? 4's great but bastard hard on higher difficulties, maybe Civ 5 would be more up his alley.

    Or if he's an RPG kinda guy, what about an oldie: Planescape?

    But since he likes STALKER, maybe... Bioshock? Nothing alike, but worth a go.
    My PC advice is as crap as my computer unfortunately.

    Yeah, Mass Effect (and/or the sequel).

    If you don't go for StarCraft, that is...

    And, they're best played with keyboard & mouse.

    Read a wee bit of the thread, sorry if these have been mentioned:

    Battlefield 2: Bad Company - He gets to blow loads of stuff up.

    Borderlands - He gets to blow loads of stuff up.

    And for a change of pace:

    Sins of a Solar Empire - He gets to explore strange new worlds, seek out new life and new civilizations...and then blow them up.

    And I saw it mentioned before, no idea if you acted on it - Metro 2033. Very like Stalker. Failing that, did he try the STALKER sequel?

    Good list of titles though. Although personally I'd ditch the last 3 in favour of Fallout 3: GotY Edition, The Orange Box and.... I dunno.... KotOR II.

    I'd say: Civ V. I've spent 100+ hours on it, it must be doing something right, and it's easier to get into than ever (and quite pretty to look at).
