I dislocated my knee once. Something popped out of where it was meant to be and I had a bit of cartilege get stuck between the bones in my leg which got crushed whenever I tried to straighten my leg.
Absolute agony, but the doc at the hospital basically just gave me a does of painkiller and then snapped the leg back into line. It was almost completely better immediately afterwards.
