Dungeons & Dragons Daggerdale a series

Downloadable ARPG has hero transfers.

Atari and Bedlam Games already have solid plans for Dungeons & Dragons Daggerdale to be a series - one that will potentially span three games.

"This is the first part," Bedlam's creative director Zandro Chan explained to Eurogamer, later adding that "you will be able to carry characters forward" as the series expands.

Chan insisted, however, that Bedlam and Atari will "have to see how things pan out" before making a rock-solid commitment to a sequel.

Daggerdale - due in spring on PC, PSN and XBLA - "concentrates" on the first 10 levels of 4th Edition Dungeons & Dragons rules - known as the Heroic tier. For Bedlam Games, this presents a natural opportunity for a trilogy, as the Paragon tier goes on to cover levels 10 to 20, and the Epic tier levels 20 to 30.

Bedlam has reinterpreted the famous D&D rules to fit an action-RPG mould, but assures that Wizards of the Coast were consulted at every step along the way. The result should be an authentic, co-operative multiplayer dungeon crawl that offers character levelling, item trading and looting - lots of looting. And all that for the price of a download game, although it's not clear exactly what that price will be.

What's more, Bedlam and Atari won't ask for a blind gamble; "We are right now preparing a demo level that can be downloaded and players can get a taste of what it's like," announced Chan.

Chan had tons more to say about Daggerdale, all of which can be snaffled up in our freshly minted Dungeons & Dragons Daggerdale interview elsewhere on Eurogamer. Time to dig out that robe and wizard hat.
