Exploring the Sealed Grounds for the first in Zelda: Skyward Sword explained

Upon landing on the surface for the first time in Skyward Sword, you'll find yourself in the Sealed Grounds.

Follow the path, defeating the Deku Babas by matching your sword swings to the directions of their mouths, until you reach the entrance of the temple. Here Link will experience a rather unsettling vision.

You'll notice some dark energy coming from the stone at the bottom of the pit, so, using your Sailcloth drop to the bottom. Once there, use a Skyward Strike on the stone to seal its power - for now.

After dowsing for Zelda, use the gusts of wind to reach the top of the pit and enter the Sealed Temple.

Talk to the old woman inside for some information on Zelda and a tutorial on beacons. You'll also want to open the chest, located to her right, for a bottle containing a Revitalizing Potion.

When you're ready, head through the doors on your right and defeat the Bokoblins attacking the Goron you encounter. You may receive an Ornamental Skull upon their death.

You'll now be able to use the bird statues scattered across this forgotten Hyrule to both save your game and travel between the sky and the surface world.

Before you head any further, climb the nearby vines and head through the entrance to find a log, which, when pushed onto the level below, will create a nice shortcut between the entrance to Faron Woods and the main part of the Sealed Grounds.

With this done, head back the way you came and follow the path north, pushing another log up against a ledge for climbing purposes as go, to reach Faron Woods.

Faron Woods in Zelda: Skyward Sword explained

Welcome to Faron Woods in Skyward Sword! This area is home to a number of Deku Babas and Bokoblins, so don't let your guard down.

For now, you'll want to use your dowsing ability to follow Zelda's path, until you save a Kikwi from two Bokoblins. The Kikwi will run off in fright though, so you'll need to follow it down the forest path if you wish to learn anything.

You'll quickly reach the main part of the woods, where the Kikwi will try to hide behind the red mushroom directly to the left of the path. All you need to do here is roll into the mushroom, so the Kikwi will run away again.

It will now hide behind the red mushroom on the right-hand side of the path, which will also need to roll into.

This will cause the Kikwi to hide next to a tree just north from the mushroom, but, thankfully, it will stand still, allowing you to talk to it.

Since Machi the Kikwi saw Zelda with the Kikwi Elder, so it's time to find him. Don't forget to roll down the log near Machi to create a shortcut!

Our Skyward Sword walkthrough will help you find every Heart Piece and Empty Bottle. We can also help you defeat Ghirahim, Scaldera, Moldarach, The Imprisoned, Koloktos, Tentalus, Bilocyte and Demise. You can also discover where to find Kukiel to unlock the Gratitude Crystals and a number of side quests, including the toilet paper quest, missing sister location and party wheel location.

How to find the Kikwi Elder location in Zelda: Skyward Sword

To find the Kikwi Elder, you need to head up the sandy slope south of Machi's location. There is a Deku Baba sitting in the middle of this slope, but you can easily avoid it by running up the right-hand of the slope.

If you want to kill this monster, pick up on the rocks at the top of the slope and roll it back down so it will hit the Deku Baba.

You'll next want to follow the woodland path to the waterfall area. Along the way, you'll encounter a couple of Bokolins and Octoroks.

Like in previous Zelda installments, Octoroks are killed by sending the rocks they spit at you back at them. This can be achieved by hitting the rocks with your sword or with a shield bash. Be careful though - if you miss time the bash, then your shield will lose some it's health.

You can also find your first Amber Relic by climbing the log next to the waterfall or rolling down the nearby log to create another shortcut for this area.

Continue following the path, cutting down small trees in your way, up onto the hill and then back down onto a small ledge next to the waterfall.

Here you'll defeat a Deku Baba and then hit a small vine with your sword to release a rope.

Jump towards this rope so Link will grab hold of it and then swing back and forth, until you can reach the opposite platform.

Here you'll find Bucha - the Elder Kikwi.

Kiwki locations in Zelda: Skyward Sword explained

If you want Bucha's help, you first need to find the locations of three Kikwi's in Skyward Sword. To ensure you don't have to rely on dowsing, we've outlined how to find all three Kikwi's below.

First Kikwi location

To find the first Kikwi, head through the same crawlspace to the right of the Kikwi Elder and then climb up the vines inside the tree.

You'll now need to cross the tightrope by keeping Link's balance and jostling the rope to knock the prickly balls to the ground. Link will only truly fall from the rope if one of these balls become attached to him, so make sure you toss them back down to the ground.

Once you've crossed the rope, jump down to the area below and take care of the Red Bokoblin Leader and his troops.

With the Bokoblins dispatched, you can get the Kikwi down by rolling into the tree. This will also drop a vine which you can use to leave this area - don't forget to roll the log down for a new shortcut!

Second Kikwi location

After finding the first Kikwi, jump down from the ledge and head forward - with the ruins on your right - until an area containing a small tree and three Bokoblins appears on your left-hand side.

Kill these Bobokins and then climb atop the ledge which would have passed entering this area.

This will allow you to reach a set of vines which you need to climb, jumping from one set to another, to reach the high ledge. It's a good idea to collect the Stamina Fruit as you go to ensure you don't fall.

Once you're on the ledge, start cutting the grass down with your sword until the option to talk to the Kikwi appears.

Third Kikwi location

With the second Kikwi found, drop back down to the ground and crawl with the hole in the far wall.

When you're on the other side, make Link sprint to avoid the nearby Octoroks and go up the small incline on you're standing atop the small hill. Don't forget to kill the Deku Baba!

Head up the slope in front of you.

Here you can head left to find your first Heart Piece - all you have to do is cross a tightrope like the one previously. You need four Heart Pieces to make a full Heart Container in Skyward Sword, so it's good to start your collection now.

Make sure you collect your first Heart Piece.

After collecting the Heart Piece, head back along the root to the small platform containing the tree.

You'll find a hole next to this tree which you need to drop down and, again, there is an Octorok which you can easily ignore by sprinting past.

After dropping down the hole simply follow the path until you reach the Kikwi lying on the ground. Just try to pick it up and you'll have its attention!

With all three Kikwis found, it's time to head back to the Elder Kikwi and, in thanks for your help, he'll give you the Slingshot.

How to use the Slingshot to reach The Deep Woods in Zelda: Skyward Sword

Now you've earned the Slingshot in Skyward Sword, you can use it to knock down the vine near the Elder Kikwi.

Use the vine to cross the gap and then head to your right - either swimming through the pool or squeezing past the root - and head towards the ruined viewing platform.

Climb to the top of the viewing platform and use the Slingshot again to knock down the vine, which you'll use to reach the entrance to The Deep Woods.

The Slingshot also allows you to finally visit Beedle's Airshop when you're back on Skyloft, but, for now, it's time to head into The Deep Woods and look for Zelda.
