Moldarach Lanayru Mining Facility boss strategy in Zelda: Skyward Sword explained

Like the previous boss battles, your fight against Moldarach in Skyward Sword is divided into two stages, which you can survive using the following strategies:

Stage One

The first stage of the Moldarach boss battle is pretty simple - you need to hit the eyes held within its claws with Link's sword.

To do this, match the angle of your sword swings with the direction Moldarach is holding its claws; if, for example, a claw is horizontal, then you need to perform a horizontal swing upon it.

After a successful swing, switch to the other claw as Moldarach recovers. Just make sure you avoid Moldarach's own attacks or else it will grab hold of Link!

Keep attacking the eyes until the claws fall off and the second stage of battle begins.

Stage Two

During the second stage of the battle, Moldarach will bury itself within the sand and you'll have to use the Gust Bellows to dig it out. Thankfully, it's quite easy to spot Moldarach, because it's large body will create a moving hump beneath the sand.

Just watch out for the Aracha which you may uncover!

If you leave Moldarach untouched beneath the sand for too long, it will attack you using its tail. Out of the sand, it will attack by charging towards you and swinging its tail around.

When you free Moldarach from the sand, you need to attack its remaining eye. Due to how small this eye is, this task can be quite difficult, but we found that forward sword thrusts are the best way to finally kill Moldarach.

Our Skyward Sword walkthrough will help you find every Heart Piece and Empty Bottle. We can also help you defeat Ghirahim, Scaldera, Moldarach, The Imprisoned, Koloktos, Tentalus, Bilocyte and Demise. You can also discover where to find Kukiel to unlock the Gratitude Crystals and a number of side quests, including the toilet paper quest, missing sister location and party wheel location.

What happens after the Moldarach boss battle in Skyward Sword?

After you've defeated Moldarach in Skyward Sword, you'll want to collect the Heart Container and head through the door, which leads to a long room containing a mine cart.

To continue forward, you need to send the Hook Beetle up and out across the gorge. Here, close to the ceiling, you'll find a Time Stone, which will shift this room back to the past and allow you to use the mine cart to reach the Temple of Time.

Hit this Time Stone to proceed.

After watching the cutscene, it's a good idea to visit Skyloft to recover any health and repair your shield if needed. The potion stall in the bazaar will now be selling Stamina Potions too!

When you're ready, return to Faron Woods and, if you want, have a quick chat with the Goron archaeologist to gain some information on Goddess Walls and Gossip Stones.

Afterwards, visit the temple at the Sealed Grounds for a tutorial on how to use the harp and your first battle with The Imprisoned!

On this battle is over, you'll need to visit the Isle of Songs, you'll need to visit the Isle of Songs and, afterwards, return to Faron Woods. Here you'll visit the Silent Realm for the first time and search for the sacred water, so you can access the game's fourth dungeon - the Ancient Cistern!
