XCOM 2 getting Long War 2 mod

Welcome back (again), Commander.

Firaxis has confirmed that a Long War 2 mod is in development, as many of us had hoped. Obviously, XCOM 2 just wasn't difficult enough already.

Long War 2: This time it's even longer.

Long War Studios, the team behind the original mod for XCOM: Enemy Unknown and a bunch of smaller mods for XCOM 2, will be working alongside Firaxis on this project. It has rebranded as Pavonis Interactive and by the looks of the new site, is still working on its own fully fledged strategy game, Terra Invicta.

We don't know much in the way of details yet, but an official post from the XCOM team promises more information in the coming weeks.

The original Long War mod transformed XCOM: Enemy Unknown into a drastically different game. Not only was it much longer (the name gives that one away, I reckon), it also changed the way you think about your soldiers: encouraging the player to think about their entire roster, rather than individual squads.

There's a brilliant quote from XCOM Lead Designer, Jake Solomon, in which he says: "We're basically a 20-hour tutorial for Long War, and that's okay."

High praise indeed.
