World of Darkness to feature permadeath

More details on CCP's latest emerge.

Forthcoming vampire MMO World of Darkness will likely feature permadeath, according to developer CCP.

As detailed on the official White Wolf forum, the news came out of a developer panel at this weekend's annual Grand Masquerade event in New Orleans.

Both mortal and vampire characters can be killed off outright, and there'll also be a Torpor system that knocks you out of the game for a limited time.

A few more nuggets of info seeped out of the event too. Apparently every character will star as a mortal but will later get the option to become a vampire.

There'll be a "humanity" system to crack down on griefers. Any players who continuously misbehave will lose humanity points and eventually become vulnerable to attack from other players.

The game will run off a single worldwide server and is aimed at an adult audience - expect plenty of gore and nudity.

The developers did add a caveat to all this though - the game is still in development so things might change before release. Still no precise word on when that might be, but don't expect it before 2012 at the earliest.
