Ubisoft "to continue supporting" Assassin's Creed games on PS3 and Xbox 360

Ubisoft has said it will continue to support the Assassin's Creed franchise on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, despite the recently-announced Assassin's Creed: Unity only being headed to PC, PS4 and Xbox One.

Company boss Yves Guillemot mentioned the two last-gen platforms during the Assassin's Creed portion of Ubisoft's investor call last night.

Acknowledging that Ubisoft had yet to detail its last-gen Assassin's Creed plans, the CEO hinted that both PS3 and Xbox 360 would be supported "for the foreseeable future".

"Assassin's Creed: Unity will be another major entry in the franchise's history," he said. "The game will showcase the city of Paris with amazing next-gen graphics and will incorporate great new innovations that will be revealed at E3.

"The title will be released this fall on Xbox One, PS4 and PC. We have not disclosed our plan yet for the Xbox 360 and PS3 SKUs, however we have made it clear as a company that we will expect to continue supporting both consoles for the foreseeable future."

Rumours abound that Ubisoft will keep Unity for next-gen systems and is instead prepping a separate game, code-named Assassin's Creed: Comet, for PS3 and Xbox 360.

Comet is reportedly similar to Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag in setting and mechanics, with naval combat and a few familiar faces. We expect to hear more at E3.
