Ubisoft: "Prince of Persia is being paused"

Video of rough-cut intro from stabled project is found.

The Prince of Persia series is being "paused" by Ubisoft.

Ubisoft Montreal boss Yannis Mallat broke the news to IGN. Simultaneously, elsewhere, a rough-cut demo video for a Ubisoft project called Osiris was found (posted below).

The new Prince?

Nowhere is Osiris confirmed as being the in-development Prince of Persia game, but it sure looks like it. The bulky hero in the video matched the bulky hero seen in a leaked screenshot for "POP Zero 2" in August last year.

The new direction looked like a dramatic departure from the bright, painterly Prince of Persia of 2008. The new Prince of Persia looked like Assassin's Creed.

"Brand management is a tricky thing," Yannis Mallat told IGN. "It needs people's attention a lot. I think it is fair to say that, right now, Prince of Persia is being paused. But we said the same thing for some other brands that suddenly popped up because a team is willing to do it.

"I'm not scared at all for Prince of Persia fans. We'll find something to entertain them with in the future. Prince of Persia is part of Ubisoft's portfolio. As a matter of fact, we sometimes iterate on franchises and sometimes we give them time to breathe and time to grow, or time to rest.

"Prince of Persia is as important as any other franchise for Ubisoft. As soon as we have something to show, we will."
