Ubisoft ditches physical game discs for its Xbox Collector's Editions in the UK

But PlayStation keeps them.

Here's an odd one: Ubisoft has ditched physical game discs for its Xbox Collector's Editions in the UK.

As detailed on Ubisoft's website, the upcoming Collector's Editions of Assassin's Creed Valhalla, Far Cry 6 and Watch Dogs: Legion for Xbox get a digital key to redeem instead of a physical disc.

However, it's as you were on PlayStation. Ubisoft's Collector's Editions for Sony's platforms do include physical game discs.

Ubisoft hasn't said why it's doing this, but it did confirm to Polygon this change does not affect the North American market.

As you'd expect, the news hasn't gone down well among Xbox video game collectors, who are used to forking out for fancy versions of their favourite games (the Assassin's Creed Valhalla Collector's Edition costs £179.99). Usually, of course, these fancy versions come with the game on a disc - it's a Collector's Edition, after all.

And why do it on Xbox and not PlayStation? Again, Ubisoft hasn't said.
