Tomb Raider: Anniversary coming to Wii

Still no word on 360 or PS3

Eidos has announced that a version of Tomb Raider: Anniversary is in development for the Nintendo Wii.

Anniversary is a remake of the very first Tomb Raider game from 1996, using the engine from last year's Tomb Raider: Legend. It's set for release on PC and PS2 on 1 June, with a PSP version to follow shortly after. As yet, no release date has been confirmed for the Wii version.

Eidos' senior brand manager Kathryn Clements confirmed that the Wii version would be extensively reworked to make best use of the Nintendo console's unique controls. "There are plenty of new features which will ensure Anniversary really hits the spot - literally," she said.

We're really not sure what she meant by that "literally", but expect clarification, and fresh details, soon.

Confirmation of the existence of a Wii version of Tomb Raider: Anniversary makes its absence from the Xbox 360 and PS3 line-ups all the more mysterious, especially considering the success of the 360 version of Legend.
