There's a lavish PlayStation orchestral concert at the Royal Albert Hall this month

So bassoon!

We are living in a new golden age of video game music, and by way of a celebration there will be a lavish orchestral concert at the Royal Albert Hall at the end of the month (Wednesday, 30th May). It's called PlayStation in Concert and will feature an 80-piece Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, plus City of London Choir, bringing PlayStation music to life. Oh, and a light show.

The programme features music from Horizon: Zero Dawn, the Uncharted series, The Last of Us, The Last Guardian, Everybody's Gone to the Rapture, LittleBigPlanet and more. Award-winning Everybody's Gone to the Rapture composer Jessica Curry, who has a video game-themed High Score show on Classic FM, will host.

The concert is a collaboration between PlayStation and Classic FM, and a celebration of video games introducing a new audience to orchestral music.

"The success of our two series of High Score, and the fact that over half a million under-25-year-olds now listen to Classic FM every week, is proof of a growing younger audience for classical music in the UK," said Classic FM managing editor Sam Jackson.

Here's an oldish video of Jessica Curry talking about the music she created for Everybody's Gone to the Rapture.

PlayStation in Concert will also be the first event to use a fancy-pants app called EnCue, which can pump media and content to the audience while the show unfolds.

Tickets range from £20 up to £60. The Royal Albert Hall is a big venue but with one date in the diary, PlayStation in Concert seats will be in high demand. Don't leave it too late.
