The Last of Us' film adaptation will follow the game's storyline

No antique dealing mafia families to see here folks.

The Last of Us' creative director Neil Druckmann has confirmed that his treatment for the recently announced The Last of Us movie will in fact follow the game's storyline.

"It's an adaptation of the story of The Last of Us," he confirmed in an interview with IGN. "As far as where we go and how we make it fit into a film, how it takes into account the unique properties of film... We're not sure yet. We're only just scratching the surface."

This should come as little surprise given how linear and narrative-rich The Last of Us' campaign is. Of course, the same could be said about Uncharted, but that didn't stop American Hustle and Spanking the Monkey director David O Russell from wanting to turn it into a movie about an antique dealing mafia family.

The Last of Us' movie adaptation will be a collaboration between distributor Screen Gems, Sam Raimi's Ghost House Picture and Naughty Dog, with co-presidents Evan Wells and Christophe Balestra along with game director Bruce Straley joining Druckmann on creative duties.
