Teleglitch is a spiffy sci-fi top top-down shooter/roguelike

Roguelikes seem to be in vogue right now with top tier titles like Spelunky, The Binding of Isaac, and even ZombiU transforming the once turn-based genre into something more palatable to action aficionados like myself. The latest fix I've come across is the just released PC-exclusive Teleglitch, which takes the top-down perspective and mouse aiming of Hotline Miami and places it in a Doom-like extraterrestrial military outpost with randomly generated levels and permadeath.

It's exactly as fun as it sounds. Combat is swift and punchy, and one can go from alone and peaceful one moment to swarmed by salivating mutants the next. To make things extra spooky, there's a fog-of-war element in place, so you can only see what your character sees. As such, most of the screen is shrouded in darkness where all sorts of horrible monstrosities lurk.

"Our mission is to give players like you a chance to walk in the dark corridors, gripping their gun and few last rounds of ammunition. To play with finger on the trigger, high on adrenaline," said the Estonia-based three-person indie developer Idealsoft on the game's official site. "We want to give you the, paranoid, sweaty, and bloody hard kind of fun."

Developed over the course of three years, Teleglitch seems like a rather robust offering, featuring over 20 types of enemies and 40 kinds of weapons and items. Idealsoft estimated that it should take most players over 10 hours to complete.
