Steam hardware pre-orders score free Rocket League and Portal 2

Rocket League coming to SteamOS and Mac after sales success.

If you pre-order any of the Steam hardware devices (Steam controller, Steam Link or Steam Machine) you get free copies of Rocket League and Portal 2.

Rocket League has now sold more than 1m copies via Steam since its release last month. It's a monster hit for developer Psyonix. Never heard of it? Where have you been? Johnny and Chris play Rocket League in the video below.

Meanwhile, Psyonix announced Rocket League is coming to SteamOS and Mac later this year.

"User reviews, sales of Rocket League on Steam, and its surging rise among eSports enthusiasts make it clear that the game is an absolute sensation," said Valve's wonderfully-named DJ Powers.

"In addition to being tremendously fun, our testing shows it plays brilliantly with the Steam Controller. So it was a natural decision for us to work with Psyonix and offer it to gamers free of charge when they pre-order a Steam Hardware device."

Here's the small print: if you've already pre-ordered the Steam Controller or Steam Link on Steam (that is, prior to 27th August), you'll still get free copies of Rocket League and Portal 2. They will be added to your Steam account by 4th September.

If you pre-order or have already pre-ordered the Steam Controller, Steam Link or Steam Machine at retail, you'll get a key for free copies of Rocket League and Portal 2 when you complete and pick up your purchase.
