Skyrim composer takes to Kickstarter to fund classical symphony

Jeremy Soule, man.

Jeremy Soule, the composer of Skyrim and a horde of other great video games, has taken to Kickstarter to raise the modest sum of $10,000 to write and record a classical symphony.

He's off to a good start: Soule Symphony No. 1, The Northerner has already raised $25,695 with 29 days to go.

This isn't Jeremy Soule, but it should be!

Jeremy Soule is apparently referred to by some as the John Williams of video game music - John Williams being the composer responsible for the iconic Indiana Jones, Star Wars and Superman themes, among others. It's high praise, in other words.

Soule scored some of the revered old video game classics like Icewind Dale and Star Wars: The Old Republic, but his work on the Elder Scrolls series beginning with Morrowind really put him on the map. He's also composed music for all the Guild Wars games and, more recently, World of Warcraft expansion Mists of Pandaria.

Surprisingly, The Northerner will be his first foray into "the grand traditions of classical music".

"This symphonic work is planned to feature live players and singers in addition to the innovative technologies for which Jeremy has become known," reads the Kickstarter blurb.

The lowest backer-tier is $15, which secures you an autographed copy of the CD once its written and recorded.

Estimated release date: September 2013.
