Sherlock Holmes 3DS outing Mystery of the Frozen City reveals first screenshots

Professor Layton's inspiration appears on the same handheld.

Sherlock Holmes and the Mystery of the Frozen City - the eccentric investigator's debut on 3DS - has unveiled its first screenshots via publisher Focus Home Interactive.

Developed by Frogwares - the studio responsible for Sherlock Holmes versus Jack the Ripper and the upcoming The Testament of Sherlock Holmes - Mystery of the Frozen City follows the famous figure as he gets to the bottom of a mystery surrounding a strange snow storm that's isolating London from the rest of the country.

The colourful, cartoony art appears to have more in common with Phoenix Wright than the grim PC outings that have made up the rest of the series, and the touch-screen seems to be getting a workout for some tactile puzzle solving.

Sherlock Holmes and the Mystery of the Frozen City is slated for release during Q4 2012.
