Sharers risk losing Live account

Says Nelson. So don't tamper.

Xbox Live director of programming Larry Hryb has urged 360 owners not to loan their accounts to friends and acquaintances for whatever reason and not to tamper with Gamerscore and Achievements - or else.

Echoing comments made in his weekly podcast, Hryb - better known to everyone up to and probably including his Mum as Major Nelson - writes: "If you run into that person in Halo 3 who claims if they could have your LIVE ID name and password to recover your Xbox Live account to their Xbox and they'll rank you up or find you all the hidden skulls in Halo 3, I urge you not to fall to temptation."

Why? Because if they don't stop using it, and decide to spend a few of your Microsoft points on Xbox Live Arcade games, Microsoft's only recourse is to cancel the account completely, robbing you of your Gamertag, Gamerscore, saved games and any remaining points.

And don't get any ideas about boosting your Achievements and Gamerscore via "nefarious" means, either. Hryb says they're policing that too. If you do, "you may sign in to Xbox LIVE one day and discover that we have removed your Gamerscore. Once we do that, you will never be able to re-earn those achievements on that account. Even worse, you might have your account and/or console banned from Xbox Live." Tampering, see, is nothing but trouble. (Upon which note, has someone been tampering with the Major's tea?)
