S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 multi-platform

"Next chapter of the mega-popular game."

GSC has announced a multi-platform sequel to S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl.

Dubbed simply S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2, the game is in development now and will be released in 2012. Insert joke about amazingly long development of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 1.

Specifics, such as which console/s the "multi-platform" tag refers to, aren't offered. We do know the game will be built on a "completely new" engine, however.

"After the official sales of the series exceeded four million copies worldwide, we had no doubts left to start creating a new big game in the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. universe. This will be the next chapter of the mega-popular game players expect from us," GSC boss Sergiy Grygorovych added on the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. website.

That's all the information available so far.

GSC had talked about a S.T.A.L.K.E.R. sequel in May last year. The developer also mentioned a console adaptation of the original S.T.A.L.K.E.R., but that, we presume, has now been dumped.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl was released over three years ago and scored highly on Eurogamer. An expansion (Clear Sky) and prequel (Call of Pripyat) were later released
