Rocket League's massive spring Tournament Update is coming this April

With major Switch performance improvements.

Psyonix has announced that Rocket League's highly anticipated Tournament Update, which introduces a new Tournament Mode among other things, will launch on April 3rd.

It's due to arrive on PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Switch, and includes a sizeable number of quality of life improvements and additions, alongside tournaments.

A fully fledged Tournament Mode was first touted last September, when Psyonix explained that it was "something we've wanted for Rocket League since our launch". In-game Tournaments, it said, would let players compete in competitions without ever needing to leave the game client.

The spring update will also introduce enhanced garage options, expanded team customisation, audio improvements, and the Samurai Battle-Car.

Arguably the most notable changes, though, will be heading to Switch. Presently, the Switch version is functional and playable, if not especially impressive.

The spring update, however, will address numerous performance and resolution issues on Nintendo's platform, introducing two distinct display modes. Performance Mode will offer 900p resolution while docked and 720p resolution in portable mode, both at 60 FPS with infrequent dynamic resolution scaling. Quality Mode, meanwhile, will deliver native 1080p resolution while docked and 720p in portable mode, at 30 FPS with added visual effects.
