Rift 7-day free trial now available

Recruit friends to earn MMO reward.

As of today, anybody can try Eurogamer-recommended MMO Rift for one week without paying a penny.

"Certain gameplay restrictions apply" to the free trials, although the game's website doesn't clarify what those are. After seven days are up you'll be asked to buy Rift (either from a shop or online) and set up monthly billing to continue playing.

Coinciding with the free trials are an Ascend-a-Friend campaign. Rift subscribers are offered "unlimited" seven-day passes to give to friends. If those friends like Rift and after seven days buy the game and subscribe, their recruiter - you - earns a reward.

Recruit one friend and you'll get a dog called Courage; recruit two friends and you'll get a Trailblazer Hat; recruit three friends and you'll get a flaming Swift Ember Steed Mount.

Ascended Friends will also automatically appear on your Friends List. You'll gain the nifty ability to summon one another every half an hour, too.

Rift launched on 4th March and was a rare MMO success, both in terms of game quality and game stability. John Bedford - now a top-level Rifter himself - reviewed Rift for Eurogamer.
