Resident Evil 7 - Reaching the Dissection Room and survive the Morgue boss fight with the Chainsaw

A complete walkthrough and guide to each area in Capcom's survival horror adventure.

Getting to the Dissection Room is one of Resident Evil 7's tougher early game moments, with hordes of Molded between you and your objective as you continue to explore the B1 Processing Area that ultimately culminates with another fight against Jack in the Morgue.

How to get to the Dissection Room via the Boiler Room

First, we highly recommend picking up both the Scorpion Key and the Shotgun from the Processing Area proper before heading towards the Boiler Room.

Investigate the bathtubs for consumables - we found Handgun Ammo and Chem Fluid - and as you approach the short steps in the corner, two creatures will appear - one ahead, and from the corner near where you entered the room.

Retreat to the doorway you came in so you're not pincered, and fight them off. If you're slow in exploring the room to begin with, you can trigger then one at a time which makes your life easier.

Continue through the doorway now into a room with the giant boilers, and three more creatures will spawn - one to the left, and two more or less ahead. You can lure the left one by itself into the previous room and fight it, and do the same with the others; back away from them and fire rounds until they are downed.

If you're struggling with these enemies, then remember you can shoot their legs to drop them to the ground. They're still dangerous, but it slows their advance and allows you to aim for their heads. If you have the Shotgun, then these encounters are much easier (a single headshot blast will take down most of them) but because ammo is scarce, we'd recommend Handgun from a distance, and when close up or in groups, go with the Shotgun.

When the Boiler Room is clear, we found some Strong Chem Fluid from the locker, then go through through the door with the Dissection Room Key.

Attempt to grab the Red Dog's Head from the shelf for a cutscene. We found some Shotgun Shells from the right locker, then down the steps, where there is another Shotgun Shells box and a Herb to collect. Go through the door.

You'll be just outside the Morgue - before you grab the Red Dog's Head hanging above the room itself, grab a few items first; we found Chem Fluid in the room on the right, and Gunpowder under the far set of stairs near the Snake Room - then drop down to start the boss battle.

Morgue Fight and how to get the Chainsaw

As with the Garage Fight with Jack, there's a trick to surviving this encounter. Your ammo is useless here, so conserve it and instead, concentrate on evasion and survival. Keep an eye on Jack's positions at all times, and use the hanging body bags as a way to stun him temporarily by passing the prompt when nearby, specifically when he's about to attack.

Keep doing this for a few minutes, and eventually he'll tear down the back fence and grab a powerful pincer weapon. Keep him at bay, and whenever the coast is clear, go to the same spot and get the Chainsaw.

This allows you to strike back, but the tactics are broadly the same. Keep your distance, stun him whenever he's about to attack, and then go in swinging with the Chainsaw.

After a few hits he'll go down on his knees and mutate, which is when you can run in and attack once more. Keep repeating this and eventually he'll be done for. If you're struggling for health, there's a First Aid Med in the corner you can grab and quickly use.

When the battle is over, make your way back through the Processing Area and to the safe room above so you can save and heal, then make your way to the Main Hall to use the Red Dog's Head and progress to a new area, the Yard and Old House.
