PS3 to offer streaming Mubi films

Focus on quality over quantity.

Sony has announced a partnership with social networking film site Mubi and aims to transform PS3 into "your own online cinema".

Available via a downloadable application, Mubi will let you stream the pick of international cinema. The emphasis here is high-brow quality: Coen Brothers, Tarantino, Godard, Kitano, Almodovar and Van Sant, for instance.

You'll also find undistributed festival films as well as independent productions and art-house creations.

What makes Mubi different is the social network aspect, where users can chat about films and to the members of the network - apparently Martin Scorsese is one.

There's no date for when Mubi will be available on PS3. Head over to the European PlayStation blog to find out more. Alternatively, check out the Mubi website for an idea of what to expect.
