Your Amiga games are likely dying

woodnotes

Preserving the commercial games is one thing, but Amiga also had a phenomenal quantity of public domain software that is probably now lost forever. Also thousands of scene demos with amazing MOD music, is there any type of online archive for those?

Max Payne rating leaked for PS4

woodnotes

"The PS2 version was a technical disaster. I got it and traded it in for the Xbox (original) version which was so much better."

You're right, not sure why you're getting neg'd. The framerate was absolutely abysmal, running at 10-20fps. The Xbox version was a near locked 60fps in comparison. I love the MP games but this isn't a version I'll pick up, unless the emulation miraculously significantly improves the framerate, anyway.

The PS2 never coped well with PC ports at all.

I remember this well on Amiga. Actually, I remember the soundtrack to the Amiga version being on a tape included in my C64 Light Fantastic bundle, before I even had an Amiga.

PS Now UK beta rental prices are pretty high

woodnotes

"I disagree. As someone who used to rent games from Blocknuster for about 5 quid for 4 nights, this is a fairish price that maybe could be a lil bit cheaper."

That was typically the price to rent new releases though, not games that are 5 years old.

I miss old Capcom so much. Really wish they would go to their roots and back to what made the company so great in the first place. They're 'just another' third party publisher these days.

I'd do anything for a UK indie bedroom-coding games renaissance; games where you get chased by enemies including toilets and slippers. I truly miss games like Monty on the Run and Manic Miner.

Xbox One overtakes PS4 sales for November in UK and US

woodnotes

"But if you subscribe to Negotiator's rhetoric - then the PS4 should handily win 2015 as it has some huge exclusives, whereas the Bone has hardly any until the latter half of the year."

The vast majority of consoles are purchased in the second half of the year though. Which is why in this month alone, MS has been able to put a whopping ~400k lead over Sony in the US for the month. Sony outselling MS by 50k per month for 8 months in a row is then quickly wiped out in a single month.

"The game has a light, fresh appeal, even for those who never played 16-bit platform games the first time around"

Erm, definitely more 8-bit. At least, the likes of Sonic looked leagues ahead of this visually. That isn't to take away from this game though, just this statement.

The game is totally my thing and I'll be grabbing it tonight on Wii U.

It seems that actual user feedback is going against the critics, and people are enjoying it to the tune of a 7/8 out of 10 game. Perhaps it's the next-gen launch goggles, but I'll give it a rent and find out for myself. I'm still intrigued, there aren't many colourful games like this on non-Nintendo platforms.

As a huge PDO fan back in the day, the reviews for this have been crushingly disappointing. Firstly, because the game is clearly average at best, and secondly because it makes me sad that we'll never see that good old Sega magic again since they destroyed all those original development teams :(

Sony is working to add MP3 and CD support to the PS4

woodnotes

"Elsewhere, Polygon went in depth with Music Unlimited and noted that it will simply overlay your music on top of what's already playing, so you'll have to manually mute a game's soundtrack to prevent your tunes from blaring over an already playing score."

Ugh, between this and the trophy syncing, the PS4 OS is looking mightily unrefined even in comparison to 360. It seems Sony does the great hardware and Microsoft does the great software/OS. If only the two would come together so we could have the best of both worlds.
