This War of Mine dev shows Frostpunk gameplay in screenshots

ukuleleimport

Looks fun!

Up until now we haven't seen what Frostpunk, the new survive-the-frozen-end-of-the-world city builder by Polish developer 11 bit Studios (This War of Mine), will be like to actually play. But new screenshots from E3 have given us our clearest look yet.
So your first look at how it plays is your clearest look yet at how it plays. Makes sense, really.

@Ashby678 This is not a matter of digital licenses. Even if you had a physical media Iphone game, you wouldn't be able to run it on an updated piece of hardware where support for that game had been removed.

This has already happened to a lot of apps and games, and is a serious concern. Games are likely to be lost forever. To some, you might think good riddance - but quality games are being lost too.

Fan project to get Zelda: Breath of the Wild running on PC shows remarkable progress

ukuleleimport

If you want to argue that it's unethical, go ahead, but please refrain from endless discussions about legality. Emulators without any Nintendo code in them are legal.

Also, the console is open to hacking. It allows you to run backups and pirated games, same as an emulator would. So any additional hurt from piracy due to a good emulator being developed would be negligible - seeing as how any person who would buy a Wii U most likely already have, and thus most likely there would be very few sales lost when, if you'd pirate on your emulator, you'd pirate on your hacked console as well.

This particular Zelda might be a slightly different case, though, as it's also out on a console that doesn't run pirated games yet. I'll leave that discussion for later.

Mass Effect: Andromeda review

Why are the Krogan and Salarians still arguing about the genophage? The Mass Effect trilogy had quantum entanglement communicators, to send arks to Andromeda without some set up seems incredibly implausible.

To beg the question: Begging the question, sometimes known by its Latin name petitio principii (meaning assuming the initial point), is a logical fallacy in which the writer or speaker assumes the statement under examination to be true. In other words, begging the question involves using a premise to support itself.

Finally, we have answers to Nintendo Switch's digital game sharing questions

ukuleleimport

So if you want a switch for yourself and one for the kids, you cannot buy an e-shop game on your account and let the kids play it on the other switch without first disabling your account on your own switch. Brilliant.

I'd have thought the logical solution to only being able to play them on one switch at a time would be to do it on a per game basis. You know, this being a family-oriented company and all.

Max: The Curse of Brotherhood unexpectedly free for Xbox Live Gold subscribers

ukuleleimport

Regarding the debate on whether games with gold are free or not, and the argument many make that you pay for one thing, and get another "for free" - you are missing the point of the word free.

To get something free means to get something without charge or obligation of any kind. It does not matter whether the money is considered specifically for another object rather than the "free" object, because there is an obligation with the "free" object to pay a charge for a "charged" object.

I can also mention that this is law where I come from. You are forbidden to claim something is free if you are required to pay for something else to receive the "free" item.

edit: You'll notice at http://www.xbox.com/nb-NO/LIVE/games-with-gold that games are not advertised as free, rather as bonus games with your subscription.

Need for Speed review

ukuleleimport

Ghost Games' latest take, its second since 2013's enjoyable Rivals, certainly has a keener eye on the series' past than more recent efforts.
My information has it that Ghost Games only developed two games thus far. This, and Rivals.

Normally, in a situation like this, you'd say the second game is the first game since their first game. A potential third game would be the second since their first. With me so far?

@bad09 No, actually, the official ones were quite known for blowing a fuse.

https://replayproject.wordpress.com/2010/10/09/how-to-repair-microsoft-xbox-360%E2%84%A2-wireless-gaming-receiver-for-windows%C2%AE/

My official one got some use, but lasted less than 100 hours. The rip off I got to replace it (since Microsoft did indeed stop selling them) didn't work at all. So am now considering the best way to do local 4-player on the PC.

@shehzaanshazabdulla It had better be backwards compatible. The 360 wireless dongle they made was of lousy quality and failed before seeing too much use, and they quickly stopped producing them.

On an unrelated note, these had better be of better quality than those lousy 360 dongles!
