One point you might have missed - itís actually called Zero Gunner 2-, as in minus. According to the boss of Zerodiv, when trying to port it they realised that most of the original materials were missing so they had to recreate it from scratch with mixed success.

Black Friday 2017: Destiny 2, Shadow of War, War of the Chosen, and more in Green Man Gaming's sale

uiruki

Anyone else notice that Green Man no longer put the source of their keys on their game pages?

I asked them a couple of months back about it and was told it was a glitch and that it would be returning but it doesn't seem to have done so yet.

After all that fuss about Witcher 3 it seems a bit off that they can just quietly retire that feature.

Nintendo Switch region-free accounts: How to buy Switch games from the Japanese eShop

uiruki

If you have a Japanese 3DS, that is much more forgiving for foreign cards; my UK Visa card works on that but not the Switch shop.

If you want to get really silly, if you have a Japanese spec Apple Watch S2 or iPhone 7 you could use Apple Pay to charge up a Suica card (app on the Japanese App Store) and then charge through a New 3DS using that.

The best method is Amazon Japan; they currently have a 5% discount on the Eshop cards and their download codes are often discounted. It just needs a Japanese billing address - it doesn't have to match the card that's used to pay. I can't recommend Play-Asia simply because they charge extra due to there being another middleman in the process.

Nintendo's latest mobile gamble doesn't quite pay off

uiruki

The lack of content is a pretty significant issue with so many more mature titles out. More stuff (or at least more story bits) would have gone a long way. I think they've really missed a trick in not having individual character stories for the units you unlock.

I think they went too far on the side of simplification too; I can see them wanting to keep the speed up but I'd have liked to see things like hit chance and criticals occur. Of course on the other side you have games like Daga Tame no Alchemist which (at least at launch) had so much animation and other fluff that it became too slow to play for me.

I can see returning in six months when they should have an events schedule and more story stuff up being fun. They need to make up their minds on what to do with stamina though; they can either have it be relatively trivial but expect the player to grind a lot at higher levels (like Granblue), or they can have it be heavier and expect players to check in regularly for short sessions (like Puzzle and Dragons). They can't do both.

A game developer's story with Vanillaware's Kentaro Ohnishi

uiruki

I think you're out by a factor of 10 on the price of his PC-9821! They started at nearly 320,000 yen for the first model which didn't even have a hard drive and they didn't get cheaper with the coming of the 486.

It's good to see that they recognised how their action games could irritate people initially. I couldn't stand the original Odin Sphere but Leifthrasir is absolutely excellent. He raises a good point about the company branding as even though I didn't enjoy Odin Sphere, thanks to their later titles I can't wait for 13 Sentinels.

@HokutoNoKen I don't know if it's possible to do this on AMD, but on nVidia at least you can configure the game to select its own refresh rate rather than simply going for the highest possible. That worked for me without affecting G-Sync.

Yakuza 5's Western release will include all Japanese DLC

uiruki

That's a bit misleading as it didn't have traditional DLC in the first place. Ryu ga Gotoku games in Japan get weekly title updates for usually about 8 weeks after launch which give you items and occasional extra bits and pieces like new karaoke songs or versus modes for some of the single player minigames. The Another Drama is part of the main game, that's the point of it. Saejima's hunting section took me a good few hours to complete, it's fun!

Video: What's different in the censored version of The Evil Within?

uiruki

@thor_hammer They're allowed but are properly age restricted (unlike A-D which are just suggestions) and they are all separated from the rest of the releases in a different section. On PSN you have to buy those games with a credit card instead of being able to use the balance from vouchers.

@cerberus CERO (the organisation which provides ratings) really don't like any form of dismemberment at all and will instantly rate a game with it Z.

@Hitomii it's very good. Super smooth on PS4. The balancing in combat is a bit off compared to the other games but the game area is fun, it's not too big and there's a new dungeon mode which you can spend a lot of time in. You can even play that mode on the Vita with a free app.

How strong exactly is PlayStation's 2014 line-up?

uiruki

It's annoying as vita is doing well at the minute. Oreshika is out next week in Japan, Freedom Wars is good if flawed due to its ambition and the lineup over the summer is certainly more appealing than what's on PS4.

Edit: and as a native resolution game, Freedom Wars actually looks really good on Vita TV.

PS4 fails to boost Japan console market

uiruki

@menage They did at the time, though, as did Star Ocean and Tales, albeit only in comparison to low sales. PS3 didn't really get started in Japan until MGS4 came out, remember - though stuff like Folks Soul, Ridge Racer, VF, Gundam and so on at least kept things going and weren't available on PS2.

I just want some stuff I don't already own on PS3 or can play better on PC. The only game I've put a lot of time into on my PS4 is Ryu ga Gotoku Ishin - and I could have easily coped with it on PS3.

uiruki

There are no games for it. The biggest recent release is Akiba's Trip 2, a completely half-arsed, 8 month late port from PS3 that runs at 720p30.

There are currently more Japanese non-cross gen games announced exclusively for Xbox One than PS4. They need to pull their fingers out.

Japanese gamers must download DLC to get The Evil Within's uncensored version

uiruki

@jabberwocky CERO really don't like dismemberment so zombie-related games often get high ratings. A Z means that retailers would have to move it away from the main display - Z sections are often mixed with all formats, old and new games all together. It'd really harm sales, and only really GTA has gotten away with it sales-wise so far.

Steam revokes 7050 stolen Sniper Elite 3 codes

uiruki

@azic I don't think that's contradictory at all. With Steam keys, the publisher can produce as many as they like. When they deal with purely digital keys like with GMG, Game and the like the keys remain in text form. If one needs to be revoked because of (for example) a bad transaction they can match up the key with the transaction and revoke it individually.

For retail release, they will send more keys over to a distributor who will then print them on to manuals/disc cases to put into. Ones. It's entirely possible for a distributor to have a few pallets of games stolen while being moved: they will keep track of batches and if their records are good they will know which keys are in those boxes. They let Rebellion and Valve know, and the keys are revoked in one big batch. Cheaper cd key sites who strip codes from retail boxes rather than buying from the publisher as above will be affected by this whether they know the copy is stolen or not.

@Bluetooth Green Man are listed on Rebellion's post as being one of the sites they deal with legitimately.

I find it slightly weird that people are believing the word of some random CD key site based in Belize over one of the UK's oldest remaining dev houses.

Hands-on with PlayStation TV Remote Play

uiruki

@PearOfAnguish it plays PS1 stuff natively, though it forces 720p. The Vita PS1 emulator isn't bad but it's not as accurate as on PS3. One game I had bother with extra slowdown and occasionally dodgy sound was FF9.

PS2 was such odd hardware that emulating it is a pain and generally out of the reach of mobile hardware. PS3 doesn't do great on some games (those running on the Shin Megami Tensei engine are a bit glitchy).

@Xeopuppy This one's a bit different because the original was so far behind even Totori. In Japan it's called "New Atelier Rorona" instead of Plus and that's why it's on both systems - it's a complete remake instead of just an enhanced port.

@ManatuBear that's the thing though - would it then sell enough copies to people who wouldn't have bought it otherwise to make up for people not doubling up? I think Cave ran into that issue when they released Guwange on XBLA - they didn't sell enough units to make up for the difference in price for their disc-based games.
