Whatever happened to City of Metronome, the missing game by Little Nightmares developer Tarsier?

theguy

I absolutely adore Tarsier's work with Little Nightmares, but didn't know much of their past so this was an interesting read, thanks
I suppose you do see hints of Metronome in their other work. One thing they absolutely nail is atmosphere and tone in their games. I hope they continue making good stuff despite the buyout, though it does pain me they'll no longer work on Little Nightmares.

PS5 timed console exclusive Deathloop won't hit Xbox until at least September 2022

theguy

@minmax Yeah. For me focusing on the platform wars here is incredibly short sighted. It's not about Xbox or Playstation, it's devs just being shoved under a collective banner and depriving others of content.
Tencent is another one that has a large stake in a number of game devs and even publishers. It's hard to see it ending well.

Sony has been working with Deviation Games on its new PlayStation-exclusive IP for over a year already

theguy

@BlueLiving To an extent. Competition is good, but not when one side can simply outspend the other. I don't give a toss about console wars, but MS just buying Publishers outright and consolidating them into Game Pass is hardly a good sign for the industry long term.

My favourite planet: The fragile tranquillity of Hillys, from Beyond Good & Evil

theguy

The atmosphere in BG&E was absolutely on point. Every area you went to felt carefully crafted and the writing only added to that. It had a small, comforting world and seeing little moments with your camera or otherwise was pretty rewarding.

It's why it pains me to look at the "sequel", because they seem to have missed the mark on all fronts. It's really not BG&E in anything but name

Genuinely awful news. Absolutely gutted to hear this.
I'm equally worried Beenox will follow the same route doing nothing but CoD, which would really irk me because the Crash Team Racing remake they developed is one of my favourite games of the entire gen.

I don't even play it and Warzone manages to piss me off.

Marvel's Avengers developer seeks to better explain why it's increasing XP grind

theguy

@darkstar2017 It's hard to say really. I've read that the single player campaign of Avengers is actually decent, so it's possible they were interested in making an Avengers game and pitched it as a solo title. Then as is customary, the demands for Multiplayer, GaaS, loot, grind and all the rest of it came in, and it lost its appeal.
But it's all pure speculation really. The Avengers franchise is pretty massive, you'd think with its popularity it'd be hard to fail.
But there's just been constant missteps and I don't really understand how we've ended up here. From having Crystal Dynamics developing it, to leaving Squeenix to market it and also not being able to get any of the movie VA's, but still basing the character likeness on the movies.
1 0

theguy

I really don't know how Crystal Dynamics wound up making this title but I hope they come through OK because it's not looking good.

They did solid work with Tomb Raider, I've no idea who decided they should go from that to a GaaS superhero game. Everything I read about it sounds so baffling too.

Microsoft confirms "some" Bethesda games will be full Xbox and PC exclusive

theguy

Baffles me the short sightedness of all these people looking at it purely in the context of console wars and whether Sony have done the same thing or not.
I don't see how MS buying Bethesda benefits anyone but MS, so I can't see why so many are keen to defend it. Consolidation isn't a good thing for consumers, no matter who's doing it.

Xbox Game Pass grows to 18 million members

theguy

@Schiehallion I'm very much the same. I couldn't give a toss about the console war, but Game Pass and MS's strategy is increasingly worrying when MS have also shown they're happy to use their copious amounts of cash to acquire large 3rd party developers who they don't have an established rapport with. It just creates another limitation of choice for the consumer.

The end goal is not really going to be something to celebrate, consolidation rarely is. I also think if Game Pass really kicks off, we'd see a change to how games are developed. The poor state of Halo Infinite might be indicative of that, in that MS don't really need to ship a really high quality game if it's just on Game Pass anyway. They'll have 18 million players ready to give it a shot as long as they market it enough.

As if to say at no point in the 7+ years of development did someone test it on the 2 consoles with the biggest userbase. Despite having entire segments during Console presentations. And on top of that deliberately hiding console footage from what I've read.

These were all intentional decisions, it's not just a little slip up is it. DF showed the game hanging for a full minute ffs

It looks like Marvel's Avengers failed to do the business for Square Enix

theguy

@Psyk Yeah I don't really understand how Crystal Dynamics, who have predominantly been making Single Player games, wounded up making an Avengers GaaS title with multiple characters trying to compete with the big boys. It confused me from the getgo. I've liked their work so as you, I hope they don't suffer from this..

Honestly even Squeenix having the license is a bit of an odd choice, they've never had the kind of marketing power in the west that some of the other big studios do.
