I was one of the people that bought into this (not $1000!) and am "testing" the alpha.

It's a neat little game, although being an alpha it obviously lacks a lot of polish and has bugs galore but the potential is there for all to see. You get to play/test it, get access to the dev forum and wiki and get all the updates/release version included free ala Minecraft beta.

If you don't like the Theme Hospital sort of games then it probably isn't for you. It very much has elements of that in how you build your prison, sort of Sims-esque commands for your prisoners and guards albeit at a very high level, and a Sim City-esque underground "utilities" mode that allows you to see all your water pipe and electrical cable networks.

Has a lot of potential and if you are remotely interested in this game I highly recommend it. You can get into the alpha from $30 (which may seem a little pricey especially since i was expecting Ł15 tops for this) but it's all good fun and totally worth it.

One thing you will learn about playing the game is that you are BAD! Even if you attempt to do good, sew some seeds, build some fire breaks, champion solar energy, whatever, your actions will always cause a problem in some part of the world. Ie "You built a wind farm in Europe!"... "Your wind farm in Europe just started a war in Papa New Guinea!". Ok maybe that is slightly exaggerated but overall the game emphasizes that basically you cannot overturn the damage already done by climate change, poverty, famine, but you merely are acting to prolong humanity as best as possible.

All of the missions are "stop X happening by (date)" or "reduce the annual temperature rise by X by (date)". When you hit the deadline date the mission just stops. The first missions are only about 4 or 5 turns aswell, so for a game with so much data in it I found that I was restricted by the small number of turns allowed in each mission.

Good buy if you like saving (or trying to save) the Earth, but be prepared for pages and pages and pages of text and graphs about everything imaginable.

then again... 3 weeks away from release and theres no actual footage except one trailer that looks dodgy at best.

i really want this to be good but I'm skeptical atm.

And, 1-0 England :)

the animations look typically codemasters (ie terrible), but im hoping the gameplay and presentation will live up to expectations.

Also, Red Alert 3 for the PS3 has just been put on indefinate hold, so if you like this sort of game get a PC or 360 :)
