The joy of treating demos like a finished game

simiankid

@enteraltaego IIRC in the WW2 sensi soccer game you could soft-lock it by killing off all the outfield players, leaving the two goalkeepers, neither of whom was permitted to kick off.

Also, as a kid I failed to realise that Advanced Lawnmower Simulator, given away on a Your Sinclair coverdisk, was an April Fools joke. So frustrating!

Werewolf: The Apocalypse - Earthblood review - breezy but scrappy RPG action

@VanBurenPhilips This behaviour is so completely and utterly disgraceful I can't believe there hasn't been more coverage of it.Your comment should be top.

I wouldn't have bought this Werewolf game as it's not really my bag, but now I'm minded to start telling other folk to avoid their games too.

Eurogamer Q&A: Win 1 of 5 limited edition PS4 Pros!

simiankid

It's a small thing, but the Demo1 CD had a huge impact on me. Because I couldn't afford a PSX, I was stuck rocking up to the electronics retailers of the time on a Saturday afternoon and rinsing those demos for everything they were worth. But such was the electric effect of the 3D graphics on my teenage brain that I could have happily played that two-character demo of Toshinden for the rest of my natural life. Those shallow demos of unfinished games were like a mainline straight into the future, and even if I had to get my fix 90 seconds at a time, I was hooked in a way that felt so different to the SNES I had at home.

When got to uni two years later I'd finally scraped enough together to get a Playstation of my very own, and soon found myself writing for the games pages of the student rag. Never got a job as proper games journalist, but it made me realise you absolutely could[/I] use your passion to drive your career. I've ended up in the film industry because of it, and made some cracking friends along the way.

All because of that little disc.

My head says Hearthstone, but the 8-year old boy in me won't stop screaming ROCK'N'ROLL RACING. First game I ever mastered to the point where the computer was absolutely no match for me. I'm not sure I even went outside for a whole summer. But it was a Scottish summer, so it doesn't really count.

So, Mr Donlan, do you think your memory is better for all this training? My memory is staggeringly awful for dates, times and Important Life Events, but excellent for trivia, odd things people say, and video game maps.

I half suspect this is because I don't give a fig for dates, times, or who was at my fourth birthday, but remembering the track layouts for Streak: Hoverboard Racing is somehow fucking critical

Frozen Endzone beta review

simiankid

Is this an alpha or beta review? URL and copy claims it's alpha; title claims it's beta.

Loved the concept of Frozen Synapse, but the fiddliness of the controls and the amount of play-important rules that never got explained meant that unless you plugged hundreds of hours into it, you always felt like you were missing something.

This sounds ace! All except the F2P part. I'll gladly pay cash money up front for a full version, or for a new episode/ quest bundle, but the kind of thing I suspect we're talking about here (currency called 'pizza slices') makes me think I'm going to have to pay to play beyond a couple of hours. And I hate that.

This is how Xbox One game trade-ins will work, apparently

simiankid

Hello Eurogamer writer folk, you might want to clarify that the £35 activation cost 'is thought to be' part of the price of purchasing the game second hand, not an additional cost levied after the S/H transaction.

My 2p: I can see why MS are trying to get cuts for publishers in the S/H market, that makes some kind of sense. But I'm not sure how this £35 thing will work - if I buy a S/H game for £5 at CeX, will I then have to stump up another £30 to MS before I can play it permanently?

Serious Sam: Kamikaze Attack! trailer

simiankid

Is anyone else starting to resent the fact that before we get to watch what is essentially an advert for a game, we have to watch and advert for something else we don't want? I know that EG only get paid for posting one of the ads, but it still seems like a weird thought.

Or even more weirdly, in this particular video you have to watch an ad before you get to the actual game footage, which is a game that advertises another game.
