For Sony, Destiny is the first-party PlayStation 4 game it needs this Christmas

reverandglass

@NathanDaviesUK You seem confused. Sony don't owe you, or any of us, shit. They (like Microsoft) are a multi-national company looking to make as much money as possible by any means they can. Microtransations? Sure. Timed exclusives? Why not. Treating Destiny like it's only on PS4? Damn straight. Sony/Microsoft/(Any other large company) would gleefully tell you you'll get laid more often owning their product if they could. This isn't news to anyone... except you it seems. Stop being so butthurt and face the real world: journalists are corrupt, marketing and advertising is a cesspool and big business see you as nothing more than a wallet with legs.

Trials Fusion's free update adds Tournament mode

reverandglass

The only reason I stopped playing Rayman's challenges was because Trials came out. I'm happy as anything that they've put the same thing in Trials too. UPlay is deservedly criticised a lot but when they get it right, they get it right. Earning points to redeem goodies for any compatible game is a cool idea and these challenges are always a welcome diversion. Well done Ubisoft.

@ziggy_played_guitar Open development but regulated distribution would be the ideal. Let anyone produce a game for Xbone/PS4 but have a quality department making sure only the good stuff gets released. Personally, I agree with you that too open doesn't actually benefit users.

I'm glad I didn't impulse buy this now. Sadly, at £55 a pop, day one purchases will have to be reserved for old favourites and 9/10 + 10/10's this gen. See you in a couple of months Watch Dogs.

DriveClub micro-transactions will let you quickly unlock cars

reverandglass

@bad09 Maybe I'm missing some subtle point somewhere but I thought that for the past 20+ years I'd been playing videogames and enjoying (having fun) progessing through the game, getting better at it, making it to the next level. Have I been doing it all wrong all this time? Could I have had just as much fun replaying the first level of every game by bashing at the controller like some derrange chimp?!
There was me thinking that people who didn't get an inherrant enjoyment from videogames just didn't bother playing them, didn't bother reading about them or making comments on Eurogamer. Apparently not, because you feel the need to point out that people play games for fun. Well done have a gold star.

The whole reason behind my comment was to remark upon how backward it seems for people to spend money to skip over actually playing the game. Ya know, doing the thing you spent money to do, to have fun doing.

Of course, clever man that you are you missed that point entirely to make some worthless comment that contributes nothing to the discussion. A discussion, may I add, that is no more than a circle jerk over mircotransaction hate among people who will continue pumping money into the pockets of the very people they bitch about on here. I fucking hate what gamers have become, how anyone can complain about a voluntary, time saving purchase that only idiots will buy is beyond me. But as I didn't feel compelled to remind everyone that games are meant to be fun I'm starting to think this whole bullshit website is just visited by twats.

I don't understand why people are complaining? You spend £50 on a game and you play it, enjoy it and unlock everything. Total cost: £50
You pay £50 for a game and you don't play it much but really want to try out one of those nice cars and the idea of saving up for one in game is too much trouble. Total cost: >£50

This type of shortcut to unlocks has been around for a generation already. Burnout Paradise had them. The whole idea of games is to work through them and progress, so I don't understand why anyone would want to buy these things but it's no skin off my nose if devs provide them and people pay for them.

(for clarity, I do object to £ = game credits style microtransactions, pay to win style)

That ET Atari game really was buried in New Mexico

reverandglass

When did this become a myth/mystery/urban legend? For as long as I've know videogame history (so, 15 - 20 years) it's been widely reported that ET was so bad it nearly destroyed the games industry and was buried out in the desert. Now, you're telling me someone went to the hole where they buried them and found them still there?! Woah! Stop the presses!

It's cool that the documentary makers have something for their film but let's not pretend there was any mystery here, they've hardly found gold on Oak Island.

@mannyYearsAgo D:Frame rate above 20fps (all that actually matters).

Half the people banging on about 60fps and 1080p couldn't tell the difference without being told or having a direct, side by side comparison. So long as the screen doesn't flicker (somewhere around 20fps) the difference made is so small you have to be a real pedant to notice and completely missing the point of gaming, ie: to relax and have fun.

Matt Stone: South Park The Stick of Truth censorship "not that big a deal"

reverandglass

While I firmly believe that censorship begins and ends with an individual (or their parents in the case of under 18s) I am really struggling to see how anyone could be bothered by the omission of these sections. Seriously, what are sales like for Sim Abortion Clinic these days? How about Anal Probe 4: The Probenator Returns?! No wait, they don't exist because outside of South Park these aren't things people want to do... let alone pretend to do in their leisure time.

I am surprise the game managed to be uncut in the US considering how much more of a contentious issue abortion is over there but ho hum, doesn't affect me.

Founders leave Burnout and NFS: Hot Pursuit studio Criterion

reverandglass

I realised the other day exactly how much Burnout Paradise influenced my future game buying. Burnout Crash, NFS: Hot Pursuit, NFS: Most Wanted and NFS: The Rivals all sit in my collection thanks to that beautiful, wonderful game.
I even thought about how a Burnout Paradise 2 would seriously make me buy any system it was exclusive too (I get exclusivity would be unlikely) so much is my love for that game. A game I completed twice on PS3 and continue to plough through on my mate's 360 any time I'm there.

The demise of the Criterion that created that game saddens me and I truly hope that the talent that found their way to Ghost Games and the Ward/Perry studio are able to continue making great games for us all. EA have seriously dropped the ball IMO.

FIFA 14 Next-Gen review

reverandglass

My biggest problem with Fifa 13 was that I'd create a player, import my likeness, sign for my favourite team and immediately get sent out on loan for so long that by the time I returned the starting 11 was as fictional as my Fifa 11 (I skipped 12) squad after 4 seasons.
The only reason I buy new Fifa games is for the updated squads and if I can't play as myself as a part of my favourite team what's the point?

Anyone know if this is still the case with Fifa 14?

Report claims PS4 launch title Driveclub delayed until 2014

reverandglass

@kinky_mong I see your point but considering how territorial and fanboyish gamers seem to be these days I don't think too many potential PS4 buyers would jump ship for the 5th itteration of a series they've never played (assuming these are people who only have a PS3 that we're talking about). There'll be other racers available at or near launch that are multi platform anyway.

For me DC was a nice added bonus for my new Killzone playing machine so I'm not too fussed, I guess only time will tell if these delays do any real damage to sales (of either machine).
