The doors close on The Chinese Room - for now

@AmorousBadger agree.for all of the drudge of the slow walk (despite its so called sprint mode) I keep finding myself thinking about that village long after I played egttr. That game has a really great spirit. The characters are so subtly realised, it's rather like playing an interactive episode of The Archers Goes Sci-fi.

PlayStation Now gets PS4 games

regmund

@Murton I agree with you that I think that it would be interesting to read an EG investigation into pricing, and as others here have mentioned perhaps an updated review of the PS Now service. I used it for several weeks in its first year and found it to be a reasonable service but the pricing needs to be more flexible. One thing that does annoy me was Sony's decision to can access to the service on Vita and PSTV which seems a little counter intuitive given that it's a service that in Sony's eyes ought to be accessible from virtually every wifi access point with >5mbps.

Sony Platinum Wireless Headset review

regmund

Just in case people like the idea of wireless headphones for gaming but aren't too concerned (yet) for the need for full 3D audio I can heartily recommend the wireless 2.0/Gold headset. I've had one for just over 3 years and they're still great. Excellent for late night gaming too. I've been using them happily on both ps3 and ps4, and vita (via headphone cable obvs.) and I've had zero trouble. Comfortable, great battery life and of course most importantly great sound.

Edit: Although still kinda pricey I bought mine online from Canada because the price in the UK was 10-15 higher. Maybe with these Platinum models around the Gold price will drop some more...

Game Genie declassified: That summer I played 230 Game Boy games

At university almost ten years later I had the opportunity to interview Jon Cartwright about his time in the games industry. He was really very interesting and certainly opened my eyes to what life was like as developer and studio manager. Cheers Jon! Btw no-one has mentioned the device which proceeded the Game Genie, Romantic Robot's 'Action Replay' for the 8 bit home computers which allowed you to do your own cheat hacking.

/Edit oops,it was Multiface not Action Replay ,that came later. My memory is not what it once was, clearly!

Disgruntled No Man's Sky players thrust Sony's PS4 refund policy back into the spotlight

regmund

It's never crashed on me, I don't expect my enjoyment of the game to last any longer than the average Ps4 title and there is some whinging going on here. But I would like to hear Sony clarifying the issue of whether a refunded game can or cannot be bought and played on the same console at a later date - what has been reported here doesn't seem entirely fair or true.

regmund

Online Multiplayer-only trophies/achievements. When people get bored of playing the latest and greatest titles- and we all will eventually -we drift away perhaps never to play title ever again making these a complete waste of developer time and publisher cash.

note: I'm not dissing trophies/achievements, these extend the length and life of many games and I do love collecting them.

BigFest review

regmund

@DreadedWalrus you're most probably right,I wouldn't expect any bugs to be fixed in BigFest.tbh whilst I was playing it felt like it might have in been in development for a little too long and it had to go out the door this side of Xmas or remain forever in development purgatory (ie. canned).
Edit: additional: looking at Onthemetal's website it looks they're just a small team so limited resourcesand they just want to work on whatever comes next . But hey! On the bright side they are a British games developer and I am happy to support that and not knock them. Also slightly off-topic plaudits to another Brit developer, Nosebleed who recently won a business award! Well done guys. I say support our Brit games developers we needn't be drowned out by the big us/Canadian development. Sorry for the off-tangent ending there!

How to exploit PlayStation TV to run all Vita titles

regmund

@Stefarno I think you've hit the nail on the head. You mentioned Sonic and Jet Set Radio, obviously both Sega IP's and I wonder if there is some licencing agreement that prevents these ports for a mobile platform from being played/used on a 'home console' hence the seemingly nonsensical whitelist business for a mobile platform that has both form factors.

Video: "Well excuuuse me, princess!"

regmund

@prolific8 yes you're right the correct word is adaptations, and if Mr Higton is so caught up with counting how many times an annoying phrase was said in an episode, he might like to know that he said 'adaption' at least four times in this. However, despite my pedantry, this was an interesting video all the same.

Raid Over Moscow left me stuck in a garage in space

regmund

There was a game on the Spectrum, called Braxx Bluff that I got as part of one of those Beau Jolly multi-cassette game collections (it had the seminal Skool Daze in the collection too).

It too had a similar difficulty scenario up-front too. Lord knows how many times I loaded that game in the hope that- this time, this time!-i would get off of the first screen and play an enticing 3D shooter whilst zipping over some alien planet surface.

Of course, one day it happened and I made it to the next level, and the rest of the game was a massive disappointment. Clearly just Beau Jolly filler.

@gizmo yeah you can download to ps3 and keep the game in an uninstalled state there for as long you like. You can now transfer the game from the ps3 via WiFi using the Content Manager app too, however I don't know if it's quicker to do that or just plug the Vita into the ps3 via USB and transfer it that way.note that when you do transfer a game it is automatically deleted off the ps3 and you can't stop that from happening.
