Eurogamer readership survey 2018

plastickitty

I for one found the survey very helpful (read on before you hastily click thumbs down)

One of the questions is in regards to competing websites. Now I have a list of gaming sites to check out and hopefully find one that is more pleasing on the eye and easier to navigate because ever since the redesign, Eurogamer has become a bitch to use, so much so iíve found myself visiting it less and less. I could cope when you abandoned the need for rating games with a score but I canít be as lenient with this drab art direction with little accessibility for its users.

PlayStation is touring the UK to promote PSVR in the run-up to Christmas

plastickitty

Here's a tip for PlayStation VR - when you have it on show at EGX stop using a god awful pre booking system to try it. I understand why it was like this the first time as it was new and hadn't been released at that time. However for the following 2 years, including this year, the PSVR booth was empty throughout the day except for a small handful of people who pre booked. You turn so many people away that were interested so if that's what you call a good business stratagy then the PSVR deserves to fail.

Consumers have had more opportunity to try the Oculous Rift and HTC Vive so why don't you take a leaf out of their books and stop restricting consumers so much.

Nintendo Switch system update 4.0 adds video capture - for four games

plastickitty

Save game transfer is a very useful feature actually, especially if your console becomes faulty. My first switch console had a faulty battery, that would only last 30mins, and I lost my entire Zelda save of over 40hours of gameplay as I couldn't transfer it to the new one. I for one would of killed for that feature from day one. As such I got rid of Zelda, as much as I loved the game, I just couldn't put all that time and effort in completing the main story and side quests all over again. So I welcome this feature as it'll give me peace of mind

EGX tickets go on sale

plastickitty

I was really disappointed last year with the line up. It was more Sony and little else. No nintendo and a small section of Xbox which just made more of a strain on PlayStation areas making queues horrendous like having to book a 6hr wait time to play the shortest demo of horizon. The PlayStation VR section was fully booked with rude staff who'd rather play it themselves than let someone play it when there was no one waiting.

I spent most of my time playing the indie games which stood out last year with some fun moments with my mates.

I think I'll wait to book tickets when I see who's confirmed to attend this year.

The reason it went well over the cooking time isn't the mushrooms, it's the silicon mould. Unlike a metal cake tin the silicon mould doesn't get hot enough to assist with baking the cake. I binned my silicon moulds after attempting to use them. Buy a metal cake tin and pimp out your kitchen!

Watch Thursday's EGX 2016 sessions live

plastickitty

This has been the worse EGX so far I'm sad to say. No presence at all from Nintendo for a start and the only presence of Xbox was the odd multi format games showing their branding. It was pretty much Sony and indie games only and thank god there was an indie presence as the wait times at Sony were just a joke. Got in at 11am to be told the horizon zero dawn game only had free slots at 5pm (an hour before close). The PSVR experience was not the kind of experience is like to relive again. Fully booked immediately with free slots between 10:30-11:30 which, if you were only able to get the 11am tickets, was highly unlikely going to be able to get one of these so called free slots. At 20mins to close, seeing there was no one waiting for the PSVR and hearing one PS staff member tell another that batman VR was free and hearing the staff member say that she'd give it a go, I politely asked if I can play it to which she said no and pulled the barrier across the front of me and walked off. Another PS staff member also turned her back on me and walked off as I was asking her a question. Manners cost nothing and Sony should probably do a better job at choosing people to represent their brand. I'm thankful to all the indie developer as if it wasn't for them I would of had no fun this year. Overcooked was fun as was conga master. Yooka-laylee was a gem to play and brought back happy memories of the days of the n64 which, with no Nintendo presence, was nice. Team 17 killed it really this year. I've still got a ticket for tomorrow but I can say for sure that I'm not as excited to go back as I was last year and will be apprehensive buying tickets in the future.

The Last of Us, Until Dawn are BOGOF on PSN

plastickitty

Just so you know CeX prices for those games (as of today)are as follows:

The Order: 1886 = £12
The Last of Us Remastered = £18
Until Dawn = £22
EA Sports UFC = £22
Blood Bowl 2 = £20
Tour de France 2015 = £15
Farming Simulator 15 = £18
Divinity Original Sin - Enhanced Edition = £28
Air Conflicts Vietnam - Ultimate Edition = £10
Saints Row IV: Re-Elected & Gat out of Hell = £10 but no Gat out of hell DLC)
Zombie Army Trilogy = £18
Natural Doctrine = £15
Dynasty Warriors 8 Empires = £12
Dynasty Warriors 8 Xtreme Legends - Complete Edition = £12 standard
Payday 2: Crimewave Edition = £18
Rabbids Invasion - Gold Edition = £8 standard
Watch_Dogs - Complete Edition = £22 for vigilante edition with cap and mask £5 for standard version
Evolve - Digital Deluxe = £8 Standard Version
Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor - Legion Edition = £22 for GOTY Edition £12 for standard
Lego Batman 3: Beyond Gotham = £15
Lego Marvel Super Heroes = £20
The Lego Movie Videogame = £18
Lego The Hobbit = £15
MotoGP 15 = £18
RIDE = £15

Yes i know they are second hand and not new and I have stated whether the versions may differ from the digital versions but in most cases they're a lot cheaper and if any are duds then at least you can trade it back to them or swap it for something else using their xmas returns policy which you can't do with the digital copies.

Nintendo employee fired after podcast remarks on localisation, fans

plastickitty

Seems harsh for what was perhaps his first mistake. Most people mess up and release a statement apologising, yet still keep their jobs. Sometimes these apologies are genuine sometimes not so much it depends on the situation that surrounds it.

From what I've read it looks to me that this guy meant no harm and it was a silly mistake. A simple warning, slap on the wrist, don't do that again approach from Nintendo would be reasonable. Sacking him instantly seems way over the top and has clearly affected him quite severely.

This week, where I work, my manager openly called my assistant manager a cunt on her facebook which the majority of our staff saw. Sadly he'll probably still have his job.

Sony doubles down on PlayStation 4 as TV and smartphones falter

plastickitty

@ziggy_played_guitar I think what @TheEnforcer000 was trying to convey was consoles shipped and consoles sold are two very different things.

Consoles shipped is the number of consoles they have manufactured and sent out to various outlets (outlets that will pay them for each console so they can sell it.)

Consoles Sold is the number of units that have sold at retail to us the consumer.

This is why consoles sold is the more important figure to see how well a console is selling. Yes high consoles shipped can suggest a high sell rate so they are trying to keep up with demand but if the consoles sold figure doesn't match up then it suggests that they are just flooding the market.

Sometimes it's because supermarkets or websites sell stuff (even new releases) cheap and we offer a higher cash trade in for them. People will buy them in bulk to make a profit. Obviously some customers are dodgy but you can accuse people of being thieves without proof can lead to some bad customer service. We work with the police and tell them of any suspicious activity. At the end of the day CeX take the hit as the police will seize the items and then our loss prevention team have to try and recoup the money.

plastickitty

@Bravestinsane Not requiring ID for part ex is not a method set up by cex in fact the same applies at game. The law states ID is only required for a cash transaction. However the majority of thieves take cash not credit as a voucher is trackable and can be cancelled unlike cash.

As for your local cex like I said it's down to the individual staff member and training etc

Your original statement you implied that cex as a company doesn't ask for ID and that the majority of stock is stolen. Now the odd item may slip pass due to delays in reporting but any items are removed from sale and the police are contacted to which we then assist with. If any items are sold then we do offer a replacement or refund.

Why don't you accuse everyone selling on eBay as thieves after all you don't know how they got the item to sell in the first place

@Needs_More_Tang There is a dedicated purchase till but even they can get held up by people wanting to buy hardware that they first want to look at and ask questions about or people buying a stack of DVDs. Also the people who are trading in are customers as well and can often kick off for people like yourself who are just buying to be allowed to jump the queue and get served before them. It's swings and roundabout i'm afraid. Numerous methods have been tried to relieve queue waits but not all of them are successful and some have caused confusion and anger. We get people come in who litterly trade in an entire DVD collection of like 200+ DVDs. Things like this can slow a queue right down. I'll tell you something, out of all the different types of customers it's these bulk sellers that are actually the most patient.

@Bravestinsane clearly you know nothing. I've worked for both game and CeX. At CeX you have a membership card that you have to present ID to open if you want cash. ID is not required for an exchange membership but is required for cash or if selling a phone (even if just for part-ex). Without that card you need to present some ID to confirm your account (and possibly answer security questions) for cash. You do not need to present it for part-ex as the membership itself doesn't require it so again security questions can be asked to confirm an account. Now I'm not gonna pretend that all staff members at CeX follow the rules to the above but you'd be deluded if you think all Game staff did. At the end of the day it's down to the individual and the training they've received as well as there motivation to do everything by the book. Plenty of grumps in all kinds of shops that don't give a shit about the rules who are just there to get a paycheck.

Mario Kart 8 DLC trailer reveals a familiar retro track

plastickitty

Here's hoping that one day mario kart will spawn smash kart and we'll have the likes of pit, pikmin, pokemon and all the others competing to win. Think of all the new power ups ninty could add and themed levels.

With Link and animal crossing I see this as a step in the right direction especially as they have themed levels too.

Sega tried with their sonic and sega all-stars which had a good roster of classic characters but lacked the ninty charm.

Come on nintendo!

GaymerX convention will return following developer donations

plastickitty

Like most gay events they are aimed at gay people and those that support them. They do want to alienate the supporters so hence the name change to make is seem less of a gays only event.

Sadly over the years gaming has become more and more mainstream and with this has brought the type of person who uses negative insults against opponents. Sometimes these insults get a bit out of hand and can be anything offensive from racist, sexist, homophobic. Those people might not necessarily be racist, sexist or homophobic etc...but it doesn't mean that those comments aren't hurtful.

I hate it when people refer to something being lame as 'gay' as in 'oh that's well gay'. It's annoying that they can't see how they associate being gay with being lame as a bad thing.

So what's wrong with an event where people can feel safe to met other people like them and have a good time playing games they enjoy?

I would rather go to an event like that than play one minute of call of duty online where I run the risk of being insulted and ruining something that was suppose to be fun

CEX selling Xbox One without Kinect from £315

plastickitty

The reason why the trade and cash prices are so low is that there is currently none to little demand for a solus kinect 2 sensor.

Everyone that has an Xbox One will already have the sensor so they won't be buying it.

Cex has a elastic pricing framework which fluctuates up and down depending upon demand and overall company stock levels.

The price is currently low on Kinects as you have to consider that they have stripped them out of all the Xbox Ones they have in stock in the company and couple that with the low demand and you can see, from a business sense why that is. If and when the demand changes so too will the prices. Cash and trade prices may go up and therefore so too will the price to buy one.

Also when someone sells their console to Cex you're getting that extra £5/£8 on top as the kinect will be bought off you separately.

At the end of the day it's a business and no one is forcing you to sell your kinect to them.

And if perhaps if you didn't all moan about the kinect in the first place microsoft wouldn't of had to remove it to shift units of XBox Ones so I guess those that fall into this category only have themselves partly to blame.

Happy Gaming!

Blizzard explains $60 cost of World of Warcraft level 90 character boost

plastickitty

@Thyzzz okay but if that's so it's still a rip off cuz either you'll pay $30 for the expansion with one level 90 upgrade included and then $60 for every extra one so why wouldn't you buy another copy of the expansion at half the price. However, the expansion may be $60 but takes into consideration the level 90 upgrade included but if you say the expansions are usually $30 that means then the level 90 upgrade would make up the other $30 so them charging £60 for an extra one takes the piss as they've charged you double the price.

Blizzard has explained its decision to sell World of Warcraft level 90 character boosts for $60.
Those who buy the Warlords of Draenor expansion, which also costs $60,
Speaking to Eurogamer, World of Warcraft lead encounter designer Ion Hazzikostas said Blizzard decided to sell the boost separately because it didn't want players to have to buy two copies of the expansion in order to boost more than one character.
So this doesn't make any sense...if you're going to sell the boost at the same price as the expansion with the boost then they might as well buy a second expansion pack

I haven't played much story driven DLC. I think the only one I remember playing was the Madison DLC for heavy rain. I enjoyed the additional (if short) extra bit of story telling but I was left with a bad taste in my mouth once I found out they had cancelled all other DLC, they had originally planned, for the game.

Sadly I won't be playing Last of Us : left behind, not because I am against DLC but because I'm an absolute wuss! I haven't even played the original as I can't bring myself to play survival horrors.

Prime example of this is, I downloaded Outlast and it is still sitting on the XMB untouched (The scary face on the thumbnail is enough to put me off) Utter waste of my Bandwidth.

Another thing to note is I also find it difficult to part with cash for DLC when there's so many amazing indie games on the playstation store like journey, the cave, limbo, rochard and flower to mention a few and then you have the likes of Sony and EA publishing such games as tokyo jungle and warp, the former of which you'd never think would be any good if someone tried to explain it to you. These games just need to be played to realise how awesome they are. So more often than not I find myself playing these little gems, some of which have stories that captivate me more than those of large scale games today.
