To be fair, although yes, it's more Zombies, State of Decay was awesome.

Totally up for a co-op enabled sequel.

Ghost Recon Wildlands feels remarkably tame

paulboy81

As a single-player game I found it average.

With 3 mates and the difficulty cranked up it's honestly one of the best gaming experiences I've had recently.

I also like that it doesn't necessarily use a levelling system like Destiny and The Division, a headshot is a headshot, even with a basic character and gear. Which means even if I fall behind my mates progress wise (which I no doubt will, with another sprog imminent), I can still jump in and actually have an impact from time to time.

Dead Rising 4 review

paulboy81

Personally I've always felt Dead Rising games were "brainless" and "forgotten the second you put down the pad".

Was never a fan, although strangely I did really enjoy playing through 3 with a mate on co-op.

Might give this a spin when it's cheap.

Not everyone's thrilled with Microsoft's Quantum Break PC announcement

paulboy81

Slightly shocked at the raft of reasonable comments here, are people feeling ok? ;-)

The announcement's timing is really the only questionable matter here, 6 weeks or so before the games release when they've been touting it as system exclusive for the last 2 years might sting a bit for any PC gamers who bought an Xbox for this game specifically.

That relatively small demographic aside, everyone is a winner here. More gamers get to play the game and a new IP gets an even better shot at gaining some traction in a crowded marketplace.

Xbox One backward compatibility: every major game tested

paulboy81

Judgement was pretty bad when I first tried it (a game of Overrun with a frame-rate through the floor), but I've had a crack since and it's been fine in fairness. Not perfect, but certainly playable and better than it was, unless I'm imagining it, I know it had an update.

Rainbow Six Siege review

paulboy81

Review is actually fairly accurate in singing the games praises, it's genuinely phenomenal when it clicks. But even so, surely it could have scraped a "Recommended" tag, I appreciate this isn't for everyone (being predominantly team-based and multi-player) but seriously, come on, it's utterly fantastic.

Destiny: The Taken King release date leaked

paulboy81

With 12 missions, 4 strikes, 1 raid and host of new multiplayer maps it's not far off what the original boxed game offered in fairness, so £35 isn't all that bad.

That said, if it's yet more missions re-using the same areas (for the 4th time by September) then I'll be more than a little sad.

Xbox One-exclusive Quantum Break leaps to 2016

paulboy81

Disappointed (big Remedy fan), but not surprised given the recent rumours of it's delay, I was expecting as much.

To be fair, as one or two others have mentioned, with Forza 6, Halo 5 and Rise of The Tomb Raider all hitting before the end of the year, it's a pretty solid trio of AAA titles for Microsoft leading into Christmas, wouldn't be at all surprised if this delay is more of a strategic one, keeping it back so they have something in the bag for 2016.

Oh well, either way, look forward to playing it.

Performance Analysis: Bloodborne

paulboy81

Me and my brother spent a few hours on this earlier this evening.

The article is fairly spot-on as the game currently stands, the constant stuttering from the frame pacing gives the illusion of a genuine performance problem, not game breaking but rather irksome if you're attuned to these things.

Load times aren't great either obviously, although I can't say that was too annoying early on in the game, the latter stages however...

I'm sure they'll sort it. Hopefully.

As for the game, not really my cup of tea to be honest, but I can see how it must be gaming nirvana for anyone so inclined.

Top factor driving PS4 purchases is "better resolution" - survey

paulboy81

Astonished that the PS4 list doesn't include the fairly substantial price differential it had going for it for sometime. The inclusion of "Blu-Ray Player" on the list (especially at second) is equally bizarre for obvious reasons.

paulboy81

I think the technical hows and whys of the 720p pipeline on Xbox One are largely irrelevant. It should, and quite clearly could, look a lot better on the Microsoft platform in 2014. Clearly Konami's Fox Engine and the One's ESRAM setup are at loggerheads, but even so, it's not the greatest of showings from the Metal Gear Solid developer.

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare Xbox One resolution at least 1360x1080

As far as the One version goes it's a considerably better effort than Ghosts, which was one of the laziest pieces of cross-platform work going on Microsoft's console. Nice to see someone pulling their finger out.

Konami could have done a lot better with Ground Zeroes whilst we're on the subject also.

Sony postpones Driveclub PS Plus Edition "until further notice"

paulboy81

Reading between the lines, I can't see the PS+ edition hitting before Christmas now, in fact a cancellation wouldn't completely surprise me now to be honest.

Oh well, was looking forward to giving it a go, but with so many other games hitting in the next few weeks and Forza Horizon 2 still occupying my time, the retail release of DriveClub simply isn't tempting enough.

Yep, shocking prices really.

If you must get the digital version, hit up the US store or at least purchase pre-paid cards for the UK store, plenty of places knocking a fair bit off those.

Nice to be able to finally pre-load a game, benefits all involved, people can start playing straight away and the Xbox Live (and PSN) servers get a break as well come midnight on the 9th.

Performance Analysis: Diablo 3 at 1080p on Xbox One

paulboy81

I'm usually all for the lower resolution and higher frame-rate argument, but in this case after having a good gander at the video, the dropped frames are so infrequent and relatively minor in scale that I doubt I'd have noticed when playing the game without having read the article.

With that being the case, I'd probably take the 1080p frame-buffer in this instance.

Ignorance is often bliss.

Rise of the Tomb Raider exclusive to Xbox One

paulboy81

@RSX901

Apologies, I had not taken that into consideration.

As an interesting aside however, if Microsoft were 'helping' with Rise of The Tomb Raider's development, would people be more tolorent to this news?
2 1

paulboy81

@FabricatedLunatic

I think the main reason some (but not all) have brought it up is because there's an awful lot of people citing business dealings such as this as the reason for never touching an Xbox One with a barge pole. Meanwhile Sony are pulling similar shenanigans with the likes of Bloodborne, to little or no controversy and reaction whatsoever.

Shite is shite regardless of who's pulling it, that much is true. But there's an awful lot of selective apathy floating about depending on which company is pulling a fast one.
0 4

paulboy81

@Alex_976

It's been mentioned (by myself and probably a few others), mostly lost in a hail of extreme down-voting.

Sony signed a deal with Eidos in 1997 keeping the Tomb Raider franchise a console exclusive to the PlayStation until at least 2000. Only difference then was a PC/Mac version was also available.
0 1

paulboy81

Reminds of when Sony effectively snapped up console exclusivity of the original Tomb Raider series from the second game onwards for a few years, as a Saturn owner who's favourite game was the original, I was rather pissed to say the least. That said, at least the PC was an option then.

Still, I have a One, so can't say this bothers me a great deal, I also can't deny it's a huge coup for Microsoft.

It is what it is, exclusives are either bought, or the studios that develop them are, can't really say either way bothers me, it's the computer game business.

"The transformation was painful. We paid the price"

paulboy81

Interesting read, nice to see Eurogamer stick it to them with the questions, even if Yerli seems intent on dodging them where he can.

I hope for the sake of the company that his reluctance to really admit where they went wrong is more of a face saving technique than it is a business mantra going forward, because they're royally fucked if it's not.

We'll be having this same interview a year or two from now.

Destiny's six-player raids can only be played with friends

paulboy81

I could probably scrape 6 friends together on Xbox, but the option to tackle these raids with less people (2-4 for example) would be nice also. People are busy and life gets in the way, families, work and the such. Getting that many friends together on the same night isn't always an option.

Bizarre, definitely needs matchmaking.

The Last of Us Remastered lets you lock frame-rate at 30fps

paulboy81

Not that I give a shite about such things normally, but now that they've gone on record as saying the 30fps lock option is only there for ps3 "purists" (thus implying 60fps is achieved), I'm looking forward to the inevitable analysis from DF, mainly because developers claims of "60fps" of late seems to indicate anything but.

Crytek's Ryse 2 canned as financial struggle spreads to Shanghai

paulboy81

Yep, put me in the "actually rather enjoyed it" camp for Ryse, I'd be rather disappointed if this is the end of the line for the IP, or the company for that matter, as I also enjoyed the original Far Cry and the first two Crysis games.
