Sprint Vector review - intensely physical VR racer
Carvery food is bargain-basement mediocre mush. Cheap, dry meat and overcooked flavourless veg that's been sitting out for hours. It's what Gregg's bakery would make if they did Sunday roast. |

The mod that kept S.T.A.L.K.E.R. alive
Lost Alpha is utter shit. Check out the work being done on the Call of Chernobyl mod instead. Edit: neg all you like, it's true, LA is very poor and amateurish in comparison. |

Looks like Valve was working on a four-player fantasy adventure game
@goldbug if that was the case, wouldn't we see some output that wasn't cosmetic items, hardware experiments and updates to existing titles? Where are the games that the world's best developers are supposedly working on? As I understand it, the way the company structure works at Valve is that you have to join up with the "popular" teams or you get marginalised and lower performance bonuses. It may well be that these groups are the ones working on stuff that bring in the most revenue and not working on innovative games. I wonder how many great ideas have been sacrificed due to lack of internal support and incentives. |

Valve announces new game
Valve are raking it in already, they are in an amazing position to create something innovative and amazing. If it's high quality and has enough marketing power behind it then that'll make money too. But no, boring copy-cat projects and worthless DLC seems to be all they care about now. |

Watch: Chris plays Resident Evil 4 for the first time
@danieldeitermann It came out at a time where the 3rd person, over-the-shoulder viewpoint wasn't common, graphically it was also very good for the time. By today's standards it's bound to have some rough edges. Also part of the charm of the series is the contrast between the moments of b-movie campness and horror. It's still a great game however and was a departure from the series' fixed viewpoint perspective, allowing you to control the camera and with a greater focus on gunplay. But if you didn't get into it back in the day then it won't have the nostalgic draw it does for fans. As with many game series. |

Nine years in the making, the beautiful Owlboy prepares to launch
@chrisf if the pixel art aesthetic doesn't do it for you that's fine, but you should at least understand that beauty is subjective. Personally I find it quite a stunning example of this kind of style. |

Dota 2 is now the world's first Source 2 game
Glad Valve are spending their time on engine updates and DLC for games who only appeal to those who like competitive multi-player. Guess there's no incentive to tell stories or make adventures any more. Not that I'm bitter or anything. |

Meet the man cleaning up after the Godus disaster
@DarpaChief Agreed. Maybe if he wants to convince people he wants to do the right thing he should actually give some indication of what this "right thing" is and when it will happen. It's easy to doll out platitudes and let time pass until everyone forgets about it than to actually do something. Starting out by giving Bryan a bit of cash would be a good-faith gesture, until they work out what this nebulous "right thing" is. |

Video: Portal Stories: Mel isn't Portal 3, but it could be
Checked out some reviews on Steam, the consensus of the "not recommended" reviewers say that the target audience for this seems to be those players who are adept at the more difficult and obtuse, user-created workshop levels. It doesn't seem to have the great contextual gameplay direction Valve is known for and having skimmed videos of it, some the writing and VO work is pretty patchy. Since my time is limited and others are in the same boat, I just wanted to provide some balance to the statement that it's "an experience on par with anything Valve has created". Doesn't look like it's for me, but I guess it's free and maybe you'll enjoy it regardless. |

What the hell is Gamechurch?
@WGPlutonium Regardless of whether such people exist or are even commonplace, it is not really debatable that kids are far more impressionable, uncritical and easily led. It is also not a matter of debate that religious teachings are instilled at the earliest age possible, by people who will use tactics such as "fun activities" which will appeal to them. It's a common teaching method, not exclusive to religion. However, indoctrination is exactly what it is about, irrespective of whatever good intentions may be behind them or whatever value you ascribe to such teachings. |

@Bertie Is it strong though? Religions love to get to people when they're kids because their minds are far more malleable and easily swayed. They usually haven't developed their faculties of critical thinking and can be led into all sorts of beliefs without the ability to appraise them properly. I have no problem with adults making informed decisions, but proselytising to kids makes me very uneasy. |
