Crackdown on Xbox One X makes a classic game even better

miseryguts

As much as I love my PS4 Pro and it's exclusives & I really do, must admit I'm incredibly jealous of these enhanced XB360 classics Microsoft is bringing to the One X particularly when there's as much care and attention to detail as there seems to be (adored the original Crackdown).. might now even consider picking one up when the price drops a bit.
I just don't understand why Sony aren't doing something similar on the Pro it's not like they don't have the back catalogue of classic PS3 titles (PS2 even?) most Pro owners would probably devour them, I know i certainly would..

Sources: Yes, Diablo 3 is coming to Nintendo Switch

miseryguts

If this ends up being true & Blizzard/whoever do a good job of the port it'll be a license for the big N to start printing money!.. what with a new Metroid Prime coming & Diablo 3 sounding increasingly likely sounds like I may have to pick up a Switch earlier than I was planning to (crap!) I have a milestone birthday soon though so I guess I'll have to start dropping some very unsubtle hints.

Blimey, color me surprised.. all the best to the folk at Panic Button with this, makes you wonder what Switch ports have yet to be announced by the big N (not so easy to second guess them these days) I initially thought that the relative lack of power would hamstring the platform.. how wrong can you be!, long may it continue.

The fact that Square are currently in discussion with Epic about possible Unreal engine customization for the Switch bodes well for the future IMHO & not just for other current gen ports. Doom and Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus are coming to Switch

miseryguts

Well color me effin' gobsmacked.. I've successfully sidestepped purchasing a Switch so far but can now feel my resolve weakening as I type this. As long as these two run well with good framerate/intelligent control mapping etc I'm sure there's gonna be many more that finally succumb, particularly if as I suspect this is just the beginning & we'll be seeing many more you'd never have thought would run on the Switch or aren't 'Nintendo games' ..DOOM 2016 for f**** sake (on a Nintendo handheld) how damn cool is that! & what I've seen of Wolfenstein New Colossus is looking like a lot of fun too.

Nintendo is knocking it out of the park with the Switch atm (reminds me of their glory days, folk hankering for any new bit of info from them.. some actual excitement!) long may it continue.

Another stealth fan here.. I adore the old Thief games & always play as a stealth focused/combat avoidance character wherever possible in any game that allows me to do so.. AI outwitting is generally a far more rewarding gameplay experience for me (helps if the AI's half decent though!) It's unfortunate that we don't get more big releases that allow/encourage non-violent means of play (there's a few indies that appear occasionally) as I'm certain it would catch on if done with some care & that can surely only lead to more variety..

miseryguts

I'll certainly be keeping a close eye on all things 'Scorpio' in the near future ..but for me it's always gonna come down to the exclusives. The simple fact is Playstation has been the go to platform for great single player experiences for quite a while now, whilst Xbox has seemingly focused on novelty/online modes etc, I (and all my gaming pals) have little interest in.
I'm hoping we'll see a completely different strategy from the big M going forward, but am not too optimistic.. time will tell I guess!

Thief studio boss mocks report of series revival

miseryguts

The many hours spent with Dark Project and Metal Age remain some of the greatest experiences I've ever had gaming.. both are a masterclass of world design/ambiance imho. Sorely miss Stephen Russell's stellar voice work as Garrett and the incredibly atmospheric music/sounds too. Unfortunately the series went on a steep downward curve after (apart from Deadly Shadows 'Robbing the Cradle' level) from which it has yet to recover.
I'd sell my soul for another Thief made with the template of the first two, but don't think I need light any candles just yet.

It's not all bad though there are still a few out there that care enough to do something.. presenting The Dark Mod

I'm astonished by how good it looks & seems to run, particularly when you consider all the different systems at play and the sheer size of it (and I bet we haven't seen anything yet!) I've been studying all the videos shown so far and haven't noticed any pop-in or clipping etc.
God knows what kind of coding alchemy Nintendo's inner dev circle are using to achieve results like this on a modified Tegra X1(?) chip but thank the lord for whatever it is!.. Don't think I'll be buying until there's more content, but based off what has been shown so far I'd say the future is looking very promising indeed for the Switch.

A sorry state of affairs.. from what I'd seen, the game was looking very interesting indeed. It's always a shame when promising projects crumble, particularly when they seem to be so far along in the development process.. I know all this means nothing of course until we get the official lowdown from the organ grinder.. but it's still a cause for major concern imho (if correct!) let's hope that all the dev's that had planned on supporting the Switch still do and that these tech reports aren't correct or at least not the full story.. I appreciate that my opinion is probably in the minority here, but it seems like a big missed opportunity to have focused on MP as otherwise the game looks promising.. what I've seen of the combat looks solid, there's not really anything similar around currently afaia & it's darn pretty too.
Wouldn't have a clue why the single player/story is taking a back seat, money/dev time (both) who knows? what I do know is I won't be bothering & neither will anyone else I've spoken to about it.. another one bites the dust (for me!) C'est la vie

Fresh Zelda: Breath of the Wild footage introduces a new area, offers glimpse at Zelda

miseryguts

I understand the reasons but am not as worried as many others seem to be.. that the game is Skyrim/Witcher/Fallout etc with the main character in green tunic (some of the time!)
I'm all for Nintendo's take on an open world Zelda where you can experiment to your heart's content in the overworld AS LONG as the dungeons incorporate the new gameplay additions but stick as close as possible to the long established proven Zelda template whilst you are in them.. that for me would be the best of both worlds, too much to ask perhaps?.. probably, but if anyone can pull it off Nintendo are the folk I'd have my money on.
