Blood Bowl 3 launches August 2021

millerlfc

@kangarootoo Blood Bowl 2 legendary edition is regularly on sale on Steam and includes all the DLC (so takes the number of races up from 8 to 20). I've only started playing in lockdown and really enjoying it, there's a thriving and very friendly multiplayer scene. The main thing BB3 needs to do is implement some sort of state-saving in case of disconnects (given it's turn-based that should be easy) and improve features for private leagues (scheduling, chat etc.)

Ubisoft delays Ghost Recon Breakpoint's new "immersive mode" and Engineer Class

millerlfc

@DigitalScars Wildlands at least had variety in the mission types, in Breakpoint every mission is the same. Also there's a huge amount of going back and forth between locations just within one mission which is incredibly frustrating. Plus the hundred other minor annoyances. Me and my friends are still grinding our way through it, but Wildlands was way better.

@YouLookFamiliar My four-man gaming team played through Wildands on the extreme difficulty setting and we died a LOT against the Predator. Think it ended up taking us quite a few weeks. And even when we did manage to eventually take it down, two of us ended up getting killed when it self-destructed (huge blast radius and we didn't run fast enough). Still it was worth it for the Predator mask item - gives you proper 'Predator' vision (different to the thermal goggles) with special sound effects, distorted speech etc.

Charming pixel art game Yes, Your Grace re-emerges after years of silence

millerlfc

@GiantStickMan Yes but he had months/years prior to that point with no updates where he could have mentioned there would be a delay, or that he was struggling. He just suddenly went completely radio silent and ignored the dozens of posts from people over several years asking if he had just run off with their money. I've backed plenty of projects where creators posted updates stating they couldn't say anything at the moment but they that they would have an announcement to make in a few months. Backers don't mind a post that doesn't say much, as long as there is some evidence that something is still happening.

millerlfc

To all the people congratulating him for sticking with it don't forget he completely ghosted the project for years, backers are quite forgiving of creators who come forward and admit they've run out of money or can't continue. He just ignored everyone completely. When the refund offer eventually came through with that update I was one of those who took it (to be fair the refund was then processed fairly quickly).

Original X-COM creator faces backlash after signing Epic Games store exclusive deal for Phoenix Point

millerlfc

@TheKeyToTime Actually Phonenix Point was a crowdfunding project on Fig so just like Kickstarter. 10,000 backers pledged $445,000 (i.e. they each pledged $10 or more) by June 2017 and were all promised the game as a Steam download. Later in November 2017 there was an opportunity for investors to buy shares at $500 each and the investors would get a share of any profits made after the game was released. It is the 10,000 backers who are the due a copy of the game on Steam who are upset. The investors aren't due a copy of the game, they only get a share of the profits so they don't care what platform it is released on as long as it is profitable.

millerlfc

@Solegor I don't think you understand how GOG works - you don't need to use a game installer, you can literally just download the whole game to your PC with no DRM or license. Then you can do whatever you want - there's no longer any link to GOG at all and there's no way for them or anyone else to revoke it. (There is an optional game installer but I doubt anyone would ever use it).

Very different case with Shenmue 3, as mecha already stated. With Shenmue any backers were essentially pre-ordering their PS4 copy with a pledge of $29 (£20). They weren't being asked to invest £250 to fund development and potentially get a share of any profits.

not true, typically only the 'blockbuster' projects that can afford a big marketing push see a big spike at the end. For most projects it's all about the first few days.

No way will it make its Kickstarter goal - most pledges come in the first few days with a bit more at the end.

As interesting as this looks (I actually did pledge on the opening day) it will struggle to even make 50% of the target.

Although Kickstarter isn't officially open to Japanese creators anyway (that's coming later in the year).

Making sense of Steam's refund policy

millerlfc

GOG is really good in this sense with it's 30 day refund policy:

14. But what if a whole LOT of my games don't work? You know: wink, wink.
We know that, since we're the Internet's leading DRM-free gaming platform, our Money Back Guarantee offer here is open to a certain amount of abuse. If you're being a bad person who's abusing our trust of you and asking for a whole lot of your games to be refunded and we can't resolve your problems, we'll have to stop offering you refunds.

So don't be that guy. No one likes that guy.

How many games can you ask for money back? We're humans here, so there's no hard numbers. If it seems like you're exploiting us, we'll let you know and tell you that this will be your final refund offer from us.
