Very different case with Shenmue 3, as mecha already stated. With Shenmue any backers were essentially pre-ordering their PS4 copy with a pledge of $29 (£20). They weren't being asked to invest £250 to fund development and potentially get a share of any profits.

not true, typically only the 'blockbuster' projects that can afford a big marketing push see a big spike at the end. For most projects it's all about the first few days.

No way will it make its Kickstarter goal - most pledges come in the first few days with a bit more at the end.

As interesting as this looks (I actually did pledge on the opening day) it will struggle to even make 50% of the target.

Struggling Kickstarter Project Rap Rabbit finally shows prototype gameplay

Japanese creators do seem pretty clueless when it comes to preparing and running Kickstarter campaigns. I mean, most Kickstarter campaigns from around the world are a mess anyway but when it comes to the big projects they're usually more polished.

Although Kickstarter isn't officially open to Japanese creators anyway (that's coming later in the year).

Making sense of Steam's refund policy

millerlfc

GOG is really good in this sense with it's 30 day refund policy:

14. But what if a whole LOT of my games don't work? You know: wink, wink.
We know that, since we're the Internet's leading DRM-free gaming platform, our Money Back Guarantee offer here is open to a certain amount of abuse. If you're being a bad person who's abusing our trust of you and asking for a whole lot of your games to be refunded and we can't resolve your problems, we'll have to stop offering you refunds.

So don't be that guy. No one likes that guy.

How many games can you ask for money back? We're humans here, so there's no hard numbers. If it seems like you're exploiting us, we'll let you know and tell you that this will be your final refund offer from us.

Munch's Oddysee is awful - avoid. One of the most fiddly control schemes of all time, extremely repetitve. I grinded my way to completion on the original Xbox - which in hindsight was a waste of several hours of my life.

Doom 3: BFG Edition review

millerlfc

I played and completed this on the PC a couple of years ago and it got boring pretty quickly. The jumps and scares were quite pleasing but the game felt very bland.

I briefly used the 'torch duct tape' mod but it made the game very easy and took away the forced scares.

Couldn't really recommend, especially when there are so, so many superior games on the 360 and PS3 at the moment.

Fear of Failure

millerlfc

The XCOM/UFO memories are great, although gamers did have the option of 'cheating' by simply saving their games often and re-loading when things got FUBAR. I never did though, even when it was tempting as half your team get shot as they exit the dropship - or even worse if you had to abandon a mission with the last survivor as the rest of their team had been killed. One of the reasons it was never worth naming your men/women at the start of the game, they weren't going to last long anyway.

I played through Munch's Oddysee last year (I was finishing off all my Xbox game before I sold them). It was absolutely awful - tedious, frustrating, boring. No amount of HD graphics will make this any fun to play.

Stick with Abe's Oddysee and Stranger's Wrath - both quality games.

In the original XBLA Bomberman, you could switch between the new 3-D effect and a normal flat one - if that makes any sense.
Could you? I still play it every so often with my housemates and didn't realise this!

Seems a bit of a redundant release, looks about the same. The current XBLA version allows up to 8 players online and character customisation anyway - plus it lets you bring guests online with you.
