PUBG finally adding ability to select which map you want

megalomaniacs4u

@Games_Should_Be_Fun Yup, I can make the top 10 consistently on Erangel unless I get screwed by the circle which happens less often as there are plenty of vehicles usually. On Miramar I regularly get screwed because of the circle chosing the extreme opposite side of the map from me and if survive getting a vehicle (there are still too many random hidden vertical surfaces that stop a car dead & kill me in the process) then it degenerates into a snippy campfest with mad dashes for the circle with no cover.

Surely its just about the only new IP MS have produced in years, and I can't remember the last one that made it to launch. Until the X came out there was zero reason to own a Xbone unless you had friends daft enough to own one.

Kickstarted & Early Access & poor sales. Well there's your problem. Some of us will only buy completed games on steam. The only early access games I've bought have been feature complete & totally playable - admittedly Factorio & Rimworld are the exceptions to the pile of crap that is steam early access.

DF Retro: Halo - the console shooter that changed everything

megalomaniacs4u

@Robot_37 It changed FPS for the worse, in that since Halo every FPS that was console oriented was way easier than it should be and played slow. The recent Doom reboot was a nice reawakening of old school FPS.

Reading your post & responses to replies of this post I see you are primary console gamer so you get a pass due to lousy controller & auto-aim. I was playing on the PC and aside from Halo 2 I can't play other games in the series to see if they fixed the gameplay.

Halo is often criticized for dull level design but, in reality, I believe that what people are perceiving is a lack in visual variety rather than gameplay variety. Each room or environment in Halo offers a unique, well placed selection of enemies and weapons that plays differently from the last room.
Um, no - the variation in the cut & paste levels was not significantly different.

Once I hit the same section for the 3rd time & being entirely cheesed off with the ineffective guns, I decided to "run" and boy did that work.

I ran without shooting anything except enemies blocking my way until I had to deal with the library BS and the flood. Once I got back from the library (5 levels played forward & back wtf) and escaped through the same cut & paste areas that started the run & gun I basically didn't shoot anything except in set pieces until the PC version decided to go crash-tastic driving the walrus along the top of the crashed ship in that dodgy chase sequence. At which point I gave all Halo a big fat zero and haven't touched anything to do with the "future of fps" since.

Overrated pile of garbage. Makes HL Xen levels look like a good idea.

@doplerradar - shotgun for life. The only decent gun in Halo

Where did all the strategy go?

megalomaniacs4u

Bloody misleading title.

1) There never was & never is any strategy in a Tatical Shooter
2) It was the sodding CoD / Battlefield / Halo noob console obsessives which killed off the tactical shooter as the tactical stuff doesn't lend it self to the idiot dumbed down console controller crowd.
3) The games companies could have continued making decent tactical shooters on PC but for some stupid reason they favour the dumbed down console market.

megalomaniacs4u

Pointless article.

Unlocked is better than locked 30fps if the unlocked can always exceed 30 fps. Any PC gamer could have told you that. All games should be trying for 60 fps minimum anyway, anything else is utter failure on the devs part.
