Really won't work well with a pad. The controls, game speed and mechanics simply weren't designed with the limitations of the pad in mind. Still might be worth a try with xpadder but no guarantees.

Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles retrospective

khaz

4 years ago

Zelda: Four Swords on the Gamecube was simply a better experience than Crystal Chronicles when it came to the whole 4 player coop thing. Mainly because of that fucking stupid chalice mechanic which turned a potentially good game into a mediocre quest fest where one player couldn't even take part because of said mechanics!

But both were games that thoroughly explored cross-platform connectivity and used the GBA (SP in my case) exquisitely.

Why the stupid chalice mechanic Squeenix...why?

The Steam Controller ditches its touchscreen

khaz

4 years ago

@TheChieftian

The reason for the touchpads is to try and replicate the mouse's 1:1 movement as opposed to thumbsticks that work on a velocity based system.

Having mutually exclusive systems on one piece of hardware would be difficult to accomplish. Not to mention there's the basic problem of space and how much you can squeeze in.

Most Anticipated: Dragon Age: Inquisition

khaz

4 years ago

@Bertie

Unfortunately, you work as part of a scoring system at EG and scoring systems don't have the luxury of taking personal taste into account regardless of the words in the review.

So giving DAO and DA2 the same score means they aren't equally good according to EG's scoring policy? That makes no sense.

That would imply that an 8/10 for one game has a different weighting as an 8/10 for another.

Tech Analysis: Next-generation game broadcasting

khaz

@Der_tolle_Emil

I don't blame any of the current PC streamers or the incoming XB1/PS4 streamers.

Its just Twitch sucking big hairy balls because they have zero competition. I have no idea why they haven't gone on a server buying spree considering the incoming population from the consoles. As it is, the current crowd also suffers as Twitch refuse to expand bandwidth.

I've been following some youtube streams lately and they're outstanding because of Google's insanely good infrastructure. If they didn't have strict advertising rules, Google would be ruling here too. I hope they come up with a solution; i'll move instantly.

I like how you don't cover that Twitch's server stability and overall bandwidth - Especially in Europe - is currently awful and its essentially pot luck if you have a stable connection to a streamer or not.

If you're willing to do some tomfoolery, http://www.qhimm.com/ has ways to replace some of the midis with the orchestral versions of the OST. :)

They even have the Triple Triad game as a standalone version/mod. Keep in mind that these were all written for the original version of FF8 PC so don't know if it'll work with this "re-mastered" Steam version.

Edit: it seems to have been removed or not there anymore. :( Give me a second to do some snooping.

Edit again: never mind, found it - http://wiki.qhimm.com/view/FF8/Tools

Running with Rifles is the best multiplayer shooter currently available. Its top down, hard as nails, has line of sight, proper urban maps, stealth mechanics that actually work, vehicles, proper weapons and needs coordinated teamplay for objective based maps.

And its in beta.

The Last of Us preview: Naughty Dog moves into Uncharted territory

khaz

5 years ago

"I was playing the game last night, and I had this moment not with Ellie but with Tess, but I didn't realize it was the last bullet in my shotgun. My back's up against the wall, and I realize I'm dead - and then all of a sudden this gunshot comes out of nowhere, and I look up and it's Tess. And I felt that was awesome - I felt like I had a partner in there."

Because there's an AI development/levelling up system and Tess reacted accordingly to her abilities or because it was coded in to save the player if he's about to die and ammo is available on her weapon?

These guys don't get Deadpool at all. They've got the violence down right but none of humour or how often writers use Deadpool as a conduit to ridicule the comic book industry. Such a great chance to transport Deadpool into a video game universe fully self aware of this fact and ridicule the video game industry.

That's what Deadpool would have done and has done several times over in the comics. He's been used to ridicule the media, TV, movies, the world in general. The studio had a prime chance to do the same here but as usual these days, lack a vision.

For all of Deadpool's insanity, his observations are usually spot on and incisive. Default to sexist humour and horrible Americanised self-aware jokes is not Deadpool. :/

No one else notices how much Deadpool hates himself as well (Not recently though). Half his personality is devoted to blocking his self-hatred. Hence the incessant crazyness.

Capcom have more Deadpool in their Deadpool than this entire game.
